6.20pm. 10 more minutes till the end of his shift. jay knew that he had not been putting in as much as effort in the relationship and was ready to use this occasion to make up for his mistakes. he had ordered flowers from the floral shop near the train station, which he would pick up right before meeting jungwon.

"welcome!" he greeted the customer enthusiastically but was ignored. the man who walked in seemed a bit drunk and grumpy but jay didn't really care. all he wanted was to end his shift and see his boyfriend.
the man threw the bag of food onto the counter, making jay slightly flustered.

"i'm sorry sir, please give me a moment." jay said as they casher crashed all of a sudden.

"what's your problem? you can't even get such a simple job done. no wonder you're working in such a shit place." the man shouted at jay, causing other customers to look in their direction. jay was furious. how could he just assume everything about his life? clenching his fists, he bit on his tongue to prevent his anger from spilling out.

just then, the man punched jay in the face, leaving a bruised cheek. before swiping another punch, jay retrained his hand. someone in the shop had dialled the police. jay held himself back. he didn't want to get himself in trouble as that would only cause jungwon to worry. he simply let the man kick him on the floor in his abdomen as he groaned in pain.

the police came too late. jay was already beaten to a pulp by the time they arrived. the police rushed towards jay and handcuffed the man who started cursing at him repeatedly.

"are you okay?" the police said as they helped him up.

"i'm fine, sir." jay managed to cough out a few words as he clutched his abdomen tightly, his cheek bleeding slightly.

"can we settle this another time? i have something important to attend." jay pleaded.

"i'm sorry but you have to come with us to give a statement." the police said.

jay complied and walked towards the police car. he took out his phone to dial jungwon but his phone had already been shattered to pieces during the fight since he kept it in his pocket. it was already 6.50.

jungwon was waiting excitedly at the entrance of the train station. inside his bag was a pair of promise rings. it wasn't anything fancy but wanted something they both had in common. it was only 6.52.
why am i feeling so nervous? it's not like we haven't been seeing each other everyday.
jungwon kicked his foot against the floor as he waited in the freezing cold. it was already winter. rubbing his hands against one another, he waited for jay to appear.

after jay cleaned his wounds and gave his statement, it was already 8.10. jay shook his leg anxiously as he watched the clock tick away.
oh my god jungwon please don't wait for me...

"you're good to go. thank you for your kind cooperation." the police said. jay rushed out of the police station and hailed a taxi as soon as possible.

as soon as he reached the floral shop, he picked up the bouquet of tulips and ran towards the station. it was already 9.
