Chapter 6: Mr. and Ms. Universe

During all their way to Greg's old house, the Quartz-Universe family spent it singing over and over the CDs that Greg had. Then Steven stopped to sing when the song of "Mister Universe" was being played. This was noticed immediately by Rose, who, with a sign, indicated that to Greg.

-What's the matter schtu-ball?- Greg said lowering the song.

-Is nothing- Steven said a little sad.

-Steven, I know you very well, what is troubling you?- Rose asked.

-Is just that I get mad because of this song- Steven said.

-You don't like the song?- Greg asked surprised.

-It's not that. It's that you took your surname from a song. You drew out all your past, all the past of your family, of your previous surname and you took the new one from a simple song. You had a good life and you threw it away and now I don't know what I can't do with mine because for how you rai...- Steven said but stopped.

Greg didn't knew what to answer, but Rose yes.

-Steven, I did the same as your father- Rose said.

-What!?- Steven said.

-I ran away from my family and took the identity of Rose Quartz, refusing my Diamond family and all what it implied, including refusing their ideology and way of living, of how they threated the others and a long etc. You might that your father's life and I doesn't have anything in common, but we actually have: we are free spirits that decided to left their parents' house in order to learn about the universe, find their purpose in life and reach their happiness- Rose said.

Steven thought about what his mother told him and found that, in that aspects, his parents were very similar.

-Maybe you need to do the same my son. Explore the world by your own. Not with Greg, not with the Crystal Gems. Maybe with Connie as Stevonnie, but as your own, to learn and saw everything from your perspective and find you place in this vast world of ours, making your own mistakes and learning from them. But, if you do and left your home at Beach City, there would be a big difference from your father and I- Rose said.

-And what would be that difference?- Steven asked intrigued.

-That you would leave them in good terms as well that you would have a place to still call home with loving people waiting for you and you could return to them if anything bad happens or you need help- Rose said.

Steven thought what Rose tell him. All of his previous adventures were guided by the Crystal Gems, which thought him but also limited the things that Steven could do, experience and learn, even the time that he could spent on those places.

Now, as an immature adult with the body and mentality of an immature 16 year old teenager, he could do things for his own, visit the places he wants as well staying there, meet new people, be by his own or even with Connie. The idea of travelling alone around the world sounded nice for Steven.

-That sounds nice- Steven said smiling to her mother.

-So, Rose, are you going to tell my parents that you are... well, you know...- Greg said.

-A hot alien? No, I won't tell them- Rose said.

-Why do you want to start the relationship with Greg's parents with lies?- Steven asked a little irritated.

-Well, because if I told them "Hi! I am Rose Quartz-Universe, the Supreme Empress of the Gem Empire", they would think first that I am joking or crazy and, when I prove to them that I'm not human, they would think that their son won the jackpot and they probably would by happy because my socio-political position in the Gem Empire instead to see that their son made a life and a family- Rose said shapeshifting into her Rose Quartz Gemsona.
