i look back at hangman, who simply nods to me. we walk back into the cockpit of our jets, awaiting news from the radio. i put on my headset and listen in.
"sir, overwatch reports an f-14 tomcat is airborne and on course for our position," the woman speaks through the radio.
"it can't be, it can't be," warlock denies.
"maverick," cyclone says.
"three bogeys on their trail," the woman says.
i decide to take the time to process what she just said later as cyclone just ordered hangman and me to fly as backup.
"dagger spare, up and ready," hangman says, looking towards me. "you ready?"
"higher, further, faster, baby," i smile, taking a deep breath. "dagger spare, up and ready."
"stand by for launch decision," the woman says through the radio. i patiently wait for an answer before cyclone gives the all-clear.
hangman and i speed off the runway and head straight up to make our way to maverick and rooster, deciding if we really want to save their asses, taking the low route wouldn't be the best bet.
we pass overwatch and prepare for the dive to mav and rooster. i watch from above as one of the bogeys begins shooting at them. they're close to the water, way below the hard deck.
they suddenly pull up and begin speeding to the sky. i watch as the bogey trails behind them, almost having them in their radar lock.
