........................................................................For some unfathomable reason, Bondita had made two braids on her hair that morning, two angry hurtful braids with hair coming out of the pleated arrangement the more they met the wind. This was her ways, just like old times, unlike Anirudh who would usually prefer to wear silver rimmed square glasses on his gloomy days, Bondita would make two rough braids, uncombed hair, screaming for attention as if in protest, and everytime it would be Anirudh who would have to cuddle her to reason. It looked adorable till she was eleven, and rebellious after that, but now, as her grown up self pouted those puffy red lips and murmured to herself while trying those braids, a sulken frown on her face, she looked nothing less than an epitome of cuteness!
Had it been Anirudh, and had this been any normal occasion, he would have crushed her in the tight embrace of his arms, cuddling her, caressing her to smile. But that morning was entirely different...
Instead of the usual sophisticated appearance that she was known for, Bondita had made an unconscious effort to wear the shabbiest un-ironed saree that she had worn on the day of the blast, later washed ofcourse. It's not that the hotel didn't provide provision for laundry, but somehow Bondita wasn't in a mood for any of those. If her husband wants her to reconsider their relationship even after so much that they had gone through, Bondita would definitely reconsider...When did she not listen to him?
And hence she won't disappoint him this time too. If he could leave her alone to cry for an entire night, she too can leave for college without his blessings. If he could choose to not comfort her at dawn, not even a kiss... she too would not pin for him. And, most of all, if he wishes her to be away, then she would do everything in her power to be away!
Just like five years ago...Why was he so hell-bent on repeating history?
Not once did he acknowledge Candice's misbehaviour, not once did he apologize for not letting her a glance into his past memories. And, now suddenly...
Throughout the way to Hindu College, Bondita stared vacantly outside the window of the phaeton car, her eyes puffy, her lips pouted, and emotions threatening to shower down her glossy orbs at the slightest nudge.
How could her Barrister Babu do this to her?
Say all those hurtful things?
Was their marriage that trivial, that brittle, that at every slightest gale she'd have to face the threat of losing it all!
Wasn't they meant to be forever?
Didn't he take an oath to never part from her! Then why? Why suddenly he spoke of reconsideration of their relationship?Bondita took a deep breath to calm her raging heart.
If her Barrister Babu doesn't want her, then what's the point in everything? This college, this examination, getting decked up, looking pretty... Whats the point?
What's the point in living even?Unable to hold on to the tears anymore, jets of salty emotions ran down her reddened cheeks as the driver adjusted the rear view mirror and pulled the brakes to halt the vehicle abruptly.
"Maiji, Hindu College."
He spoke softly, and it made Bondita wipe her tears with a readied promptness."Accha bhaiya. Don't wait up. Return back. I'll hire something on my way back."
She got down from the car, only to realise she had come out wearing the bath slippers from hotel instead of proper sandals, the foamy cloth surface scrubbing hard against the rough stony walkway."All your fault Barrister Babu", she murmured unmindfuly, as if cursing her own self, and the passerbys stole glances at her, nudging each other with a brush of elbows.
