Mental institute...Indiana

As my father and I exited the institute, the fresh morning winter breeze hit with unexpected stabs of the cold weather.
"You alright?" My father asked, seeming quite concerned.

"Yes," I silently replied. Not trying to be rude (I have a reputation)

"Are you ready for a new start of life in California?"

"I guess." My goodness. I would be so far from the institute...What about my promise to Jess? I sure do hope I can keep it.

"Uuhh...what can I call you?" My question even took me by suprise.

"Dad would be nice, but if you aren't comfortable with that, Dan would do just fine.". What a typical father name 'Dan'.

Dan later reached for the radio when he realized I wasn't actually going to say anything after his reply. What came from the box was classical music. I know I know. You would expect me, a mental institute ex-patient, to be able to listen and watch just about anything and enjoy it, but come on, even I know myself and classical isn't for me. So my next bet was sleep.

Dan's place...California

His place was nice. Kind of like the houses rich people lived in only just a tad bit better. Well he was an advocate after all. And suddenly I wonder if he had family or kids. If they would like me. If they will treat me nice. And unexpected panic just washed over me like a river. Kind of like the time I was in court just year ago. Just sitting there waiting for the judge to decide my fate

"You can go right up to the porch. I'll grab your stuff."

"Umm yeah ok. Thanks."

Five minutes later Dan was walking up from the car and opening his huge front door.
The inside on his house was nice as fuck. Huge as fuck and expensive as fuck.
The house was so quiet, I felt like I had to whisper!

When you entered the front door you could see a spiral staircase leading up to the second floor and if you looked past that, a river was visible through a wall made entirely out of glass..

"Everybody else will be back next week. They wanted to give you space to just settle in," Dan said in a quiet tone.

"Um Thanks"

I guess he did have a family after all.
