Dan's place...California

When we arrived back at the house, Jessica and I were ready to look for a safe that may not even be there. What then? More unsolved mysteries that will just keep eating at my brain and drive me insane?

Immediately as we stepped inside, I led Jessica up to my room.

"Kids," I heard Jacky chuckle to herself.

When Jacky came to my bedroom, Jessica and I were discussing our possible trip to Indiana. It's was gonna be hard to pull it off but we'll try.

"You guys want anything?" Jacky offered.

"No thanks you." Jessica and I both said in unison.

"Okay. I'll be in my room if you guys need me," she informed and left us.

"What now?" Jessica asked in a hushed tone.
"We wait."

Fifteen minutes later when we were sure Jacky had gone to her room, Jess and I quickly got to Dan's study. It was unlocked just as I had left it earlier.

"He leaves his study unlocked?" Jessica scoffed. It was a one time the thing that he did but I said nothing. Jessica and I searched and search everywhere. We couldn't find anything.

"Bingo!" Jessica exclaimed.

The safe was behind a huge Mona Lisa.

"How did you find that?" I asked.

"It felt hollow around the painting. It's a typical safe hiding place. How you didn't think of this astounds even me," she said.

"Just open the thing," I told her while handing her the paper. She did and all that was in the safe were two file-my institute file and a case file.

I took my institute file amd read through it. I relived that life again.

"Umm. Kate. Look at this," Jessica called.

"Jess why are you going through case-" I paused realizing it was mine. Why would he have it. He didn't even represent me in court. He didn't even come to court. I grabbed the file from Jessica and started going through it. Most of the stuff seemed very new to me and some I remembered clearly.

The accused, Kate Johnson, is charged with murder of the defendant, Carlene Johnson...

That I already knew.

The Accused says she doesn't remember anything about the accident other than a voice telling her countless times that she killed the defendant.

That was the honest truth.

The forensics offered a report of how the events could have taken place:
The accused went into the kitchen and grab a knife out of anger. The defendant tried to defend herself as there were signs of a struggle present. The accused lost the knife and resorted to hand-to-hand violence, taking down the defendant in the process and the defendant hit her head on the corner of the coffee table present causing bruising on the left half of her forehead.

That was impossible. I had a lot of rage as a child and I got into many fights at school and everywhere I went, but my mom was learning MMA that time. It was completely impossible that I could have taken her down like that.

Motive for the crime:
The defendant had denied the accused to visit her father, who at the time was in California, and the accused is known for her short temper and thus ended up stabbing the accused twice in the left leg, twice in the left shoulder and once in the sternum which broke into the heart and stopped blood flow resulting in the death of the defendant.

What. The. Fuck.

Yes, mom said no to visit him but he wasn't here. He was at the hotel near my school that week. I remember because he told me.

"Shit. That's heavy shit," Jessica commented over my shoulder.

"I know. I need us to go over this thing again because none of this shit is the fucking truth,"

"What?" She questioned.

"This doesn't make any sense. My mom join a MMA class two years prior to this so I couldn't have taken her down like that. And Dan was in Indiana not Cali. All of these notes are wrong Jess," I explained.

"Well why didn't Dan tell the court that when he represented you?"

"Jessica. My advocate father did no such thing as represent his daughter in court. He didnt even show up to court. Not even once." The memory sickened me.

"Why are you even still here?" Jess asked the question I ask myself every single day.

"You remember my nightmares?"

She nodded in response.

"Lately they have developed and the creature in them called me 'Kat'" I finished.

Jessica froze from what she was doing-taking pictures of the case file- and looked up at me with panicked eyes.

"Kate. Isn't your father the only one that calls you that?"

"That's why I'm worried Jessica.''
