Unrequited love, the pain is unbearable. You knew when you fell for Stephen Strange his heart already belonged to someone else. The music from the organ started and the doors opened to reveal a beautiful bride, none other than Christine herself. When the blip happened she found someone they dated for four years taking it slow because of her past relationships always feeling so rushed or demanding, this relationship felt right to her but you couldn't help but notice the sad gaze Stephen had as she walked down the isle. He burned for her still he loved her and you could see it, you acted as a mutual friend between the two. With Christine you had girls nights drinking and watching sappy romcoms until the wine made everything seem funny. But with Stephen he seemed to trust you enough to talk about work things and mystical threats even his glory days as a surgeon, he mentioned his childhood a few time on drunken nights he would also mention Christine asking about her and how she was it hurt knowing he loved her so deeply.

Lowering your chin you stood by him until she made it to the alter with her soon to be husband. Strange sat down beside you when everyone else did but he kept a thin lipped expression, his eyes darted down staring at the wooden pew before you both. Reaching over you kept your eyes forward on your friend but your hand found his knee offering a supportive squeeze, you wanted to comfort him and let him know he can talk to you later if he wanted. Sometimes he wasn't in a sharing mood and instead you both would crawl in his bed and lay next to each other, human touch is addictive and needed once you become lonely enough Stephen thought nothing of it, at least that's what you thought and felt, but the more you spent time with him the more you started to fall for him. In your mind he didn't find you attractive or even his type but his actions seemed different it all felt deeper than a basic friendship.

"She looks beautiful doesn't she?" A guest whispered which seemed to have caught Stephen's attention. He glanced over at you seeing you kept your hand within reach along his knee, he normally wouldn't be so forward but he felt out of place and vulnerable, without hesitation he cupped your hand soon curling his fingers into your palm you turned your hand so you were able to give him a proper hold. Stephen felt a bit better from your kindness, he felt less lonely and moved having you around, he might have started to develop a liking to you but the dangers that he faced would put you in a line of danger he couldn't allow himself to become distracted and bring harm to you. He found it better to draw a line and never cross it, he felt better keeping you within reach but never embracing you as close as he wanted to both of your feelings were just mixed and unspoken in fear of rejection.

Taking another look over at you he offered a faint smile which quickly melted when you turned to face him, your eyes met staring deep into his blue orbs he gave your hand a squeeze but he pulled it away soon after. Christine and her new husband kissed finally getting hitched, Stephen stood up with the other guests as you just sat there wondering if you over stepped or became touchy at a wrong time you could still feel his scarred touch on your hand but you wanted to hide your feelings. Standing up you wore a big smile and clapped watching as Christine grinned ear to ear running out with her new beau. Everyone followed out behind them to go to the reception next door with the drinks and food.

"Want me to wait with you?" Stephen asked glancing over at you. "I'm good, I think I'll be fine. I'm surprised I made it this far." You jested. "Y/N, I know you held my hand to feel calm. Claustrophobia can be unsettling I would hate to be trapped in a small place. Not to mention all the people here I don't mind if you need me to stay." Stephen tried to find an excuse not to leave with everyone else but also stay close to you, he found out the hard way about your phobia when Tony locked you in the closet at the compound with him as some prank. "You caught me-.." You sighed out, you didn't really mind sitting with people it was just the large amount of people surrounding you if you were to stand and go out the same time. You also intended to hold his hand to comfort him but as usual he seemed to have been clueless.
