Chapter 6

Steve's P.O.V
Everyone looked at Eddie in surprise. Robin and Nancy were tearing up. "How are you alive? We thought you died!" Nancy said teary eyed. "Well it all leads back to Vecna." I said. Nancy and robin got tense so Eddie and I quickly explained. "So hold on, what did Johnathan and I miss while we were in California?" Will asked confused, so we gave them a quick recap as well. "So what did you guys wanna do about Vecna? He's clearly still in play." Robin said. Eddie and I looked at each other, a knowing look on Dustin's face as he jumped up and down in excitement. "Well there's a little bit more to say. Well show. Ready Harrington?" Eddie said to me, holding his hand out to hold mine to reassure me. I smiled and held his in thanks, feeling the all to familiar hotness to my cheeks. Getting confused looks again that was our cue to shift, so we did. We closed our eyes and I felt my fangs grow in, my claws unsheathed, ears pointed and my tail grow from my lower back. As I looked up I could see a faint yellow lens over my eyes, the yellow glow of my wolf eyes. I looked over to Eddie to see he had shifted at the same time as promised, his wings and all exposed. All of the gang gasped, Dustin just laughed in excitement. "DUSTIN?! DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS?" Nancy questioned him. "Well yeah! I didn't bring you here just to see Eddie!" He snapped back. "Why didn't you tell us Steve? We would've accepted you, how long has this been going on?" Robin said. A pang of guilt went off in my chest. "Since Will went missing. That same night." I confessed. "And you kept this a secret this entire time?" Nancy said, heartbreak laced her voice. "I-I did but-" I started but Eddie spoke for me, "he was scared to tell you guys. You would be too if you were in his position. I should know, I have been deemed the towns freak for years. If anyone knows what it's like to keep your deepest secrets and feelings from your friends and family it's me." I smiled in appreciation and looked back at Nancy and Robin who were giving me looks of sympathy and understanding. "So you became this way since I went missing? I'm surprised that I never gotten bitten by whatever turned you." Will said. I shrugged and suggested it might've just been because the demogorgon got to him first.

After some more talking we started to list down some things we thought we were weak to and our strengths. "So what have you guys noticed so far?" Johnathan asked. "Well I'm not weak to the sun so thats a check off the 'false' list" Eddie said holding a hand out to see if he got burnt, turns out he didn't. "I'm weak to silver so that's a check off the 'true' list." I added. Eddie looked a little angered when I mentioned silver but I held his clawed hand in mine to reassure him I'm still here. He smiled at me in appreciation. "What about the other generic stuff? Like garlic, wooden stakes, sleeping during the day and awake at night?" Robin asked looking at Eddie. "Well so far the night one is false, I actually slept last night. As for wooden stakes and garlic I haven't tried and I don't think I want to." He responded. "As for me, we know silver hurts me, but the wolfsbane hasn't been proven yet. I also don't wanna try that." I replied. "Well what about the full moon?" Will asked. "Oh yeah definitely. It affects the both of us. You should've seen it last night, we were eating so much deer meat and blood it's insane. And we actually discovered a new power that Eddie has." "Wait really?! What is it!?" They all asked at the same time. "I can put people in a trance and make them do what I want." He replied. He put up a hand for them to hold on as he searched for something. "Aha! Found ya!" He said as he held up a squealing rodent. "Now my demonstration. You will allow me to feast on you because I'm hungry." He said to the rodent. It's eyes glossed over, squeaking in response and dropped to the floor as Eddie picked it up and started to suck on it, leaving the others in disgust. "Ok ok we get it! It works!" Robin said her hands covering her eyes, "wait don't look over yet, I'm getting hungry too, hold on." I said in a panic as Eddie handed me the shrivled rodent and I plopped it into my mouth, a loud chewing sounding out. After swallowing I called the coast was clear. "Thank god that's over, I was about to puke. But that's a pretty handy ability Eddie!"

Robin praised Eddie. "WAIT EDDIE!" Dustin shouted. Eddie turned to him confused. "Since we are listing abilities, are you able to shapeshift into a bat? Like an actual bat?!" Henderson said excitedly. Eddie put a hand to his chin and smiled in thought. "I'm not sure, but it's worth a shot." He said determined. He closed his eyes and he took focused breaths. After a second of comfortable silence a black puff of smoke appeared and in its place was a small black bat, which rocked Eddie's classic haircut. "Oh my god it actually worked! Holy shit! I'm a fucking bat!" He said in his normal tone of voice, just a little squeaky. He flew into my shirt pocket, "see that Harrington, now I'm pocket sized! That means I can leave the house without suspicion! Ha take that police force!" He squeaked trying to flip the bird with his small talons. We all laughed and I couldn't help but blush again. "Well what about you Steve? Can you turn into a full on wolf? Like a full grown wolf?" Will asked. As I was about to respond I was interrupted by a clock sound. Fuck, shit, fuck, shit! This cannot be happening! But unfortunately it was.

I was alone in the upside down, seeing what max had drawn out after her experience. I then saw Vecna, he stood at pillars of all his previous victims. I growled in hatred towards Vecna, then he spoke up. "No need to act so violent Steve. You are more important than you realise." I looked at him in angered confusion. "What do you mean? What don't I realise?" I spat. "You are the thing that can keep you and Eddie close together, the thing that you cannot live without. Without each-other you won't be able to reach your full potential. That is why you two are the only cursed ones, because this place knew that one day, you would need eachother." He rambled. I still didn't understand what he was getting at. Then I felt vines wrap around me and tie me down to a pillar, a vine wrapping around my neck. Then I heard a faint sound, my favourite song, being sung by Eddie. Eddie was trying to free me. "You see Steve. Even now, you are everything to him. You together will become my puppets and help lead me to victory. Join me Steve, and you can be with him forever." Vecna said in his dark tone. I looked at him as I saw a gate open, a gate to my friends, I then looked at my hand. I was still in my wolf form. I looked at Vecna with hate, "thanks but no thanks, I'd rather be with him without you in our lives again." I spat out. I slashed his face with my claws with a guttural growl, the vines released me as I slashed Vecna, and I ran for the gate. As I ran debris fell down from everywhere, thanks to my wolf speed and agility I was able to dodge them with ease. I had made it to the gate and my senses came back to me, but as I opened my eyes again everyone just looked at me in awe. I wasn't sure why until Nancy held out a small mirror to me. I was taken aback from what I saw.
