Even getting threatened that day by Professor McGonagall didn't stop Phil and I from passing notes in class. I would have been worried about it if it weren't for Phil's reaction every time he read it. His whole face would light up and a grin would always find it's way onto his face. I smiled to myself each time I saw him, and blushed profusely whenever I was caught staring.
Phil seemed to have the same reaction as I did. Whenever he looked over at me, he would smile to himself. I wasn't supposed to see this, of course, but he didn't notice me looking out of the corner of my eye. And when I turned to look at him, he would blush the same was I did. It was adorable.
We were in Transfiguration again, and passing notes of course.
so did you finish your homework? i totally forgot about it
I passed it back to him and he smiled his cute little smile.
yes, i did. and no, you can't copy it
He passed it back and looked at me, waiting for my reaction. I pouted slightly at him before replying.
why nottttt
it's your job to do your own homework
but
no
please
no
pretty please
fine
I smiled over at him and leaned into him slightly, thanking him in my own silent way. He just nodded at me and handed the papers over.
When the lesson was over, we had a free hour before I went to Potions and Phil went to Herbology. Phil asked if we could go outside and sit by the lake, and I agreed. It was better than sitting in the library and going over the ingredients for the Cure for Boils.
We walked silently to a tree right at the edge of the lake. I leaned against the tree and Phil sat criss-cross in front of me. We sat there without saying anything for a moment before Phil broke the silence.
"Is it weird that silence isn't awkward with you. I could sit here forever without saying anything, and it would still feel normal. Or is that just me?"
He seemed nervous about saying that and kept looking down at his hands.
"It's totally normal, at least for me it is. I feel the same."
He looked up at me and smiled at my response. I smiled back slightly and chuckled to myself.
"What?" He said, sounding confused.
"Nothing." I said simply.
"You can't just say that. Now I'm interested in what you were laughing at!" He complained.
"I don't know, you're cute." I said quickly and then looked down at my lap. I didn't mean to say that out loud, but now it's out there.
He didn't respond right away and I was scared he had just gotten up and walked away. Maybe I had scared him off. I mean, he didn't even know I was gay, hell, I didn't even know if he was gay.
I finally got the courage to look up a couple seconds later, even though it felt like years had passed. I was surprised to see him still sitting there and looking at me. I looked into his eyes and he stared right back into mine.
"Thanks." He said simply.
Thanks? Really? That's all?
"Yeah.." I said, trailing off at the end.
"I mean, thank you. Sorry, I'm super awkward with this kind of thing, really."
"No, it's fine. Sorry I said that, it came out of nowhere."
We went back and forth for nearly five minutes, stumbling over sorry's and how awkward we were. After a while I couldn't handle it anymore. I leaned forward and kissed him. He immediately leaned into my touch and kissed me back. A few seconds later we broke apart.
"Wow." He said, slightly breathless.
"Yeah." I stuttered back.
