GIA POV

First time in a long time I'm going back to school. My mom isn't stupid. She knows if she keeps me home that CPS will get involved. From a couple of months ago I started wearing my hair in buns. Only because my mom couldn't pull my hair and use that as leverage.

Checking my reflection I saw a sad little girl. I fixed my glasses a little. Fun fact I never used to wear glasses not until my mom had threw some liquid in this right one... after that my vision wasn't the same.

Letting out a breath I made my way downstairs. My mom was waiting "let me check you over to make sure no bruises are showing. Last thing I need is a case against me".

She literally checked me up and down. Once she was satisfied she let me leave. Normally kids would take the school bus or their parents would drive them. But I walked. Not by choice. My school was far from my home. But walking is what I did.

School was another place I disliked. The kids here were mean.

Walking in I hear a group of girls chuckle pointing at me. The same group who constantly makes fun of me for wearing the same old clothes that are too small for me. But what could I do?.

Going to class as fast as I can... I was always the first one in. Sitting down with my head down I just wanted this day to end already.

"Class we have a new addition today. Her name is bria" the teacher said.

Not caring.

But I felt someone sit next to me. I looked up and it was bria with a huge grin on her face. What was she smiling at? "Hi! I'm bria!".

Just giving her a faint smile "hey".

"I know you have a name" she said.

"Yeah it's Gia" I said.

"Gia, cute name... and it goes with my name" she said. She was so perky and happy. Meanwhile I'm sitting here just withering away in my unhappiness.

She continued to talk the entire time. She didn't shut up. Finally class was over. I got up and raced out of there. Bria followed right behind "wait up Gia!".

Dammit.

"Hey what's the rush?!" She asked.

"No rush I'm just trying to get to class" I said.

She looked confused "but we have a good three minute break. You can chill out".

Chill out? I don't know the meaning.

"Yeah I guess" I said.

She kept staring at me.  Feeling a bit uncomfortable I turned away.

"Gia you know if you lose the glasses and bun you would be even more pretty!" She said.

The bell rang. Thank god. We walked to class together. Bria somewhat hanged around me for the rest of the day. At lunch she got her tray of food and sat down next to me. "Are you not hungry?" She asked.

I lied "nope".

She glanced at me "liar".

"What?" I asked.

She gave me a piece of bread and her milk "here eat up".

Not instantly grabbing the food... but I ate it. She watched me eat and smiled "knew you were hungry".

After school I started my long journey to walk home. Hopefully it doesn't rain like the last time.

"Gia?!" I heard.

Lord I know she's not going to follow me home. Not a good idea!.

"Gia?!" I heard again.

I stopped and turned around. She was in a nice car hanging out the window "hey silly! Why are you walking?!".

I shrugged.

"Get in! I'll take you home" she said. The back passenger door opened. Looking at bria who was smiling and waiting for me to get in the back. I did just that. The car was nice. The AC was blaring making the sweat beads on my forehead disappear.

She turned to me "so just give my driver the directions".

A driver?. Wow!.

"Yeah sure just take this straight and then make a left and jump on the parkway. Once you do that... take exit 2... and make a left and go straight and my house is on the right" I said.

"Maybe I'll come over for a bit" she said.

No don't do that!.

"Yeah I don't know" I said.

"Why?" She asked.

"Not today" I said.

"Oh, maybe tomorrow" she said.

I nodded.

Last thing I needed was bria witnessing my mom hitting me.
