Laura's POV

I take my seat beside George Weasley, hoping today will be a good day. But based on what I saw in the hall on the way over, I'm doubting it.

(Flashback)

I run from my dorm with my wand, praying I won't get in trouble for being late to DADA.

"Did the Draco Malfoy just say thank you? To me?"

I stop at the sound of that familiar voice. Cautiously peeking out from the corner of the hallway, I spot y/n and Malfoy standing together. Y/n has her back to me, but her laughter is genuine. Malfoy breaks into a smile. One that I didn't think he was capable of giving.

I hide behind the wall again, waiting for them to turn into the next hallway and down to DADA. Hurt and jealousy build up inside of me, making me wipe a tear that escapes, unwelcome.

(Flashback over)

I burn a hole into the back of Malfoy's head with my eyes. If looks could kill, Draco Malfoy would have been gone a long time ago.

"Malfoy do something to you Fletcher?
You look like he murdered your cat."

George cuts into my thoughts, teasing me.

"Piss off Weasley."

"Seriously, how are you not Slytherin? I genuinely don't understand."

He laughs. I turn to look at him, giving him a look of annoyance. He doesn't notice however and turns around to joke with Fred who sits behind us.

"Hey Laura, how are you?"

I hear a sweet voice behind me. Turning around, I spot Kaylen, whose just sat down.
I open my mouth to speak, but am not allowed the pleasure as the frilly pink lady enters the classroom.

The short woman introduces herself as Professor Umbridge. And that fake-ass smile she puts on already annoys the hell out of me.

Y/n's POV

I'm caught off guard by the stout woman in a unflattering dress who walks into our Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

When did we get a new teacher?

I look over at Draco in question, he gives me the same look, shrugging his shoulders.

"Good morning children."

The frilly woman says, her voice coming out in a soft and annoying tone.
She gives us an annoying smile as she flicks her wand in the direction of a stack of books beside her. They come to land on each of our desks.

Defensive Magical Theory?

I read the title, feeling confused as to why we were given beginner level books.
I flip through the book hurriedly, not seeing a single spell.
I open my mouth to speak but Hermoine Granger beats me to it.

"There's not a single spell in this book."

She points out, looking up at professor Umbridge.

"We will be learning in my class in a secure, risk-free way miss Granger."

"How is that going to help us if we were attacked?"

Potter cuts in. I look between the two, feeling the tension from across the room. She flashes Potter a creepily calm smile before responding.

"You are children! Who on earth would want to attack you?"

"Oh! I don't know, maybe Voldemort?"

Potter snaps. I look over at Draco, with an expression of 'are you seeing what I'm seeing?' He looks down at his book and adjusts his tie uncomfortably.

Remembering what he's been through, I slip my hand over his, squeezing it slightly. He doesn't look up at me, but he instead covers my hand with his own, cupping mine between his.

"You shall not speak without permission Mr Potter, detention in my office."

The rest of the class stays quiet, looking around cautiously.

"Now, let's get to our lesson, shall we?"

A/N:
