Y/n's POV

Draco lays in bed, staring at the ceiling with a dazed expression.
I walk over to him
and put a hand on his shoulder timidly.
He looks up at me in surprise.

"What are you doing here?"

He asks quietly.

"I want to make sure you are okay."

I mumble. He musters up a smirk.

"I'm feeling great. How about you?"

I smile softly at his attempt to diffuse the tension.

"I'm better."

I whisper.
Surprising me, Draco holds out his hand to me. I take it gratefully, tears pricking my eyes again.
Giving my hand a squeeze, he mumbles,

"I'll be fine. Don't cry over me."

I break into a grin as I attempt to wipe my tears away.

"Don't flatter yourself, I'm not crying over you."

Raising an Eyebrow with a smirk on his lips, he says,

"Oh really?"

"Yeah,"

I nod.

"I'm crying over the cat you made me
lose first year."

I tease. Draco breaks into a bright smile, one that is rare yet beautiful.

"You'll never forgive me for that will you?"

"I don't remember you ever apologizing."

"I'm fairly certain I did!"

He objects, seeming genuinely surprised.

"Nope."

"Fine. I'm sorry for causing you lose your cat."

He says in a soft tone.

"You're forgiven...I guess."

I say with a serious expression. However I quickly break into laughter at Draco's offended face.

"I'm the injured one in bed, and yet I'm the one apologizing."

He laughs, leaving me with a smile.
His grin however, quickly fades.
Taking a deep breath, I hesitate to ask what was happening.

"Draco, what's going on?"

I whisper.

He simply shakes his head.

"I can't talk about it here. And I don't want to pull you into this y/n."

"But, I don't want you to go through this alone Draco."

"I don't have much control over my life right now- never have really- but I do get to control whether or not I drag you into this. And I won't do it."

He says lowly, staring unwaveringly into my eyes.
I nod, realizing I won't be able to change his mind.

"Fine. Don't tell me. But, please don't feel like you can't, okay?"

"I- yeah."

He answers, hesitantly.
Not knowing what else say, I squeeze his hand gently.
His eyes are drawn to the lamp hanging above us, watching intently as the flames bounce around.

"Miss (y/l/n), I'm going to need you to head back your dorm now."

Madam Pomfrey says, coming up beside me. I look over at her and nod.

"Alright."

I look back over to Draco,

"I'll see you later alright?"

He nods, squeezing my hand.

"Thank you."

He whispers, letting go.
I freeze, seeing a familiar fear in his eyes.

"Draco, I am relieved to see that you are alright."

A deep voice causes me to turn around. Lucius Malfoy stands near me, looking at Draco.
His eyes move to meet mine for a brief moment, leaving an unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I watch Draco carefully as his father comes near him. His eyes are no longer warm but instead cold and emotionless. It's clear he doesn't want to be near him.

"I hear Potter did this to you. Is that true?"

Lucius questions raising an eyebrow.
Draco nods hesitantly, refusing to meet his father's eyes.

"And you let him?"

When Draco says nothing, Mr Malfoy's grip on his cane noticeably tightens, leaving me to wonder what he would have done had they been alone.

"Ah. I see. Well, I'll be sure that's taken care of. Get better Draco."

I watch as he strides out the door in a hurry.

I wonder where he's going?
