"I don't know why you weren't given a gift but that is no excuse to hurt this family!" Abuela yelled at Mirabel who had finally had enough of her supposed giftless status being thrown in her face and used against her.
"If you think that's what this is about then you a blind delusional old woman." Mirabel's voice was flat and cold and there were gasps of shock and horror from the rest of the family that was standing around watching.
"For your information that wasn't what any of this was about. I don't care if I have a gift or not, the only reason I get annoyed when that's brought up is because everyone keeps shoving it in my damn face and has every day for the last ten years. The reason for any of this. All of this is because you are a paranoid traumatized old lady who won't let anyone help you or even admit that you need help moving on from the past. You're so concerned with the miracle and what it can do for Encanto you forgot about who the miracle was for. You forgot about your own damn family as human beings instead of just tools for you to use. As far as you're concerned Luisa would never be strong enough even though she could probably lift all of encanto and she damn near tries to shoulder everything on her own, and Isabela would never be perfect enough for you even though she tries so hard just because she didn't want you to be disappointed in her. Because she thought that being perfect and doing everything exactly the way you want it done was the only choice she had no matter her own feelings." Mirabel pointed at her sisters as she said that and noted out of the corner of her eye as they looked at each other surprised.
"You see Dolores as a gossip machine instead of someone who is forced to hear everything whether she wants to or not. You don't even really see Camilo, just who he can turn into." Now she pointed at her two older cousins who flinched slightly at being called out.
"You don't see Mama. You see a healer who can heal everything but sickness and death with food. You don't see Tia Pepa. You see the clouds she creates, you see how her emotions interact with her gift and you get mad at her for it even though emotions are part of what makes us human to begin with." Pointing at her mother and her tia now Mirabel was aware of how her tia was stroking her braid but wasn't murmuring about clear skies as a cloud loomed over her head, her mama looked away and refused to look at Abuela.
"You didn't see Tio Bruno, just the horrible reputation the town gave him. He didn't control the future, he didn't know what the future would hold. He just saw bits and pieces of what happens in the future and tells people. You and the town are the ones who turned on him and vilified to the point where he thought running away was the only way he could protect me from whatever cruel fate you would come up with because he knew as soon as you saw part of that vision he had you'd assume the worst and act on it." Mirabel pointed towards the wall now as she spoke about her uncle and she noticed how Dolores looked alarmed and surprised and everyone else looked confused or surprised or guilty. Abuela opened her mouth as if to say something but Mirabel didn't give her a chance. She spoke over any attempts her Abuela made to speak.
"Antonio is five years old. He just got his give yesterday and you're already talking of ways to find a use for him. As if he was no longer a human much less a child. Just a new tool for you to use." Now she pointed at her youngest primo who raced over and latched onto her leg, causing one of her hands to drop and pat the top of his head on habit.
"And when everyone thought that I was giftless because of the door when I was five you never saw me as human again and constantly made sure I was put down or pushed to the side. I was just a stain on the family to you even though I was a five year old." Mirabel had put a hand on her own chest now as she stared coldly and calmly at her Abuela, her other hand still on top of Antonio's head.
"We were all children before you ripped our childhoods away from us." Mirabel said and now she waved her arm out to the side as if to encompass the whole family.
