Chapter 28

#28 - Special.

Tomorrow is D-day , the day Kabelo's uncles come to pay my bride price. I have been avoiding my grandparents and dad at all costs. Gogozi has been trying to bribe me with junk since she knows I'm pregnant. I was sitting at the backyard with all my nieces and nephews eating mangoes that we got from Gogozi's tree.

Olwethu : "Ncane why don't we have a tree like this one at home?" I love my brothers and sisters kids but when they ask too many questions , I just can't.

Umi : "Because it wasn't planted." I like this one.

Me : "And then wena , since when do you have such a deep voice?" He chuckles.

Umi : "Aibo ncane phela I'm grown manje." I roll my eyes.

Zamo : "Why are you outside when you should be locked in the bedroom?" She asked grabbing a mango from the plastic.

Me : "Oh shoot! I forgot , I was supposed to be here outside to fetch something then I saw these kids eating mangoes and I just joined the party."  She laughs shaking her head.

Zamo : "Well what were you sent to fetch?"

Me : "I forgot."

Zamo : "Ay come and go to our room before Gogozi catches you." She holds my hand and we walk together well after I grabbed three mangoes , leaving the rascals eating their mangoes. 

When we get to our room , we find all my sisters sitting. We join them and sit chatting and laughing. My phone rings somewhere but I can't find it.

Ndabe : "There." I thank her and take it. It's Kabelo , I smile and walk off to the bathroom.

Me : "Baby."

Kabelo : "Don't you miss me?"

Me : "We miss you."

Kabelo : "I miss you even more plus I haven't had some in days." I laugh.

Me : "That's all you know."

Kabelo : "I hope you loved my gift to you."

Me : "Oh you just reminded me , lemme go check it now."

Kabelo : "Okay bye , I love you. I just wanted to hear your voice and I miss you."

Me : "Nami babe I love you."

Kabelo : "Bye mawezingane."

Me : "Bye baba wazo." He chuckles and cuts the call.

I go back to the room and get my bag.

Khanya : "And then?"

Me : "I'm looking for something."

Khanyi : "Which is?" She asked sitting on the floor next to me.

Me : "I don't know but it's apparently a gift from Kabelo that he wants to see me in." When I open my cosmetics bag , I come across a small velvet box. I open and I'm immediately blinded for a minute by the bling. I facepalm myself while my sisters scream. It's a white gold & diamond solitaire primary ring and it fits perfectly. My tears do what they do best ; I'm crying and laughing at the same time. I take my phone and dial him but his phone is off so I leave a message.

Zamo : "Such a beautiful ring mntase."

Muhle : "I just can't wait to see the actual ring ke." The door opens and Gogozi walks in.

Gogozi : "What's all the noise for?"

Khanya : "We were celebrating Lando's engagement ring that was hid in her bag."

Gogozi : "Let me see?" I give her my hand and she smiles. "It was meant for you vele mntanam. I'm happy if you happy."

Me : "Thank you Gogozi."

Gogozi : "Now let's go , lunch is ready." We follow her to the dining area and for once everything was back to normal - we were eating , chatting and laughing ; no bickering or eating in silence.
