The next morning, Willow woke up on the pull-out bed from the couch in John B's home. JJ was asleep in the chair across from it, his head tilted to the left with his feet propped up on the end of the pull-out. She sat up slowly, wincing in pain due to the bruise on her right arm when she used it to prop herself up. Once she was sat up, she let out a yawn while rubbing her eyes. Once they were adjusted to the light, she saw JJ asleep on the chair. Subconsciously, it made her chuckle to see him sprawled out in a tiny chair as tall as he was.

The boy was already six foot tall at only sixteen, which was always crazy to her. She remembered a time where she was actually taller than him when they were little, which changed around the seventh grade when he hit puberty. Since then, he had grown so much more and she had remained the same height since eighth grade when she grew to be five foot and five inches tall. She was the shortest out of the group, being a few inches shorter than Kie. It was something they all picked on her for, but it was rare.

"JJ..", She whispered, leaning forward to tap his foot. "Wake up, J.."

He took in a deep breath as he lifted his head, leaning forward slightly to rub his eyes. Letting out a yawn, he stretched out his arms as his tired eyes met her own. He shot her a gentle smile as he brought his arms back down, saying, "Surprised you're awake before me."

"Yeah, well... couldn't sleep well.", She shrugged her shoulders, looking down at her hands as she fidgeted around with the blanket. She thought for a second while he moved from the chair to sit beside her on the pull-out. He wrapped an arm around her, allowing her to lean into him and lay her head on his shoulder.

"Wanna take a walk?", He whispered, feeling her nod against his shoulder.

That's what they always did when they were friends before. The walks they had were their way of letting stuff out and off of their chests. It was when he told her about his abusive father and it was when they talked the morning before she broke him into a million pieces. She remembered the conversation they had clearly and it always made her feel better whenever she missed him when she dated Kelce. She knew she had messed up but she made him promise that if she ever made him mad, or upset, he'd find a way to still be there through her dark times. Now, with them being close again she knew he kept it.

As they made their way down John B's path, there was nothing but the sound of their shoes against the gravel path and crickets chirping in the distance. It was currently four-fifteen in the morning and they were the only two up out of their friends. She was wearing one of Kie's sweaters that she had let her borrow on a night where it was extremely chilly and she had forgotten her jacket. JJ was wearing his Kildare Island jacket, running his hand through his hair before placing his hat back on. The two of them walked in silence for awhile, just soaking up the sound of nature.

Once they reached the shore, JJ took his flashlight out of his pocket and shone it out towards the sand to see where they were walking. Outer Banks was notorious for Atlantic ghost crabs, which they normally come out around May to the month of September. They were interesting creatures to see because the only time they'd come out is at night, but not during the winter. Ghost crabs hate the heat and the cold, so having to wait a full year to see them was always something to look forward to. They were one of JJ's favorite creatures on the Outer Banks coastline, also secretly being Willow's too.
