*Roone and Mara's pov

I wake up with water splashing me in the face. It startles me but I regret opening my eyes. Blasted sun! Then I remember it all. Shit damn that flood that swept us all away. Double shit, please tell me that my stuff was secured enough on me.

Outhouse in the middle of the summer!

I fall off whatever I was on and land in the water. Not gonna lie, I felt like a little bitch after panicking, only to realize that I can stand. It's only waste deep. It wasn't as strong but I could definitely feel the slightest pull of a current. Slowly walking back to where I just fell from, I try feeling my way around it. Most likely that was a counter.

I reach the sink and luckily I find my pack floating in it. Digging around for my glasses, I make sure to hear out for anything that might sneak up on me while I'm blind. When I put them on my assumption was right about being in the kitchen. I'm not sure exactly how I got in here but judging by how sore my entire body is I'm pretty sure it was one hell of a ride. One I wouldn't want to get on again.

Noticing how bright it is in the house, I can only imagine how it must be outside. Damn, it must be midday. I'm trying really hard not to call it for Mara. Or my brother and Fredi. As I make my way through the house, I can feel the current getting stronger. Amongst the sound of water flowing I can faintly hear somebody screaming. Or at least it sounds like screaming. It certainly wasn't snarls otherwise I wouldn't be heading towards it right now.

Once outside I'm almost washed away if it wasn't for the brick wall that was surrounding the lawn of the house I was in. Flipping hurt like a mother!

Across the street I see someone struggling against the current but they can't seem to move their head completely above the water for more than a few seconds at a time. All I see his dark hair and... Holy shit!

"Mara! Mara, hold on, I'm coming!" screw not calling out. I can't see clearly from here but it looks like she's caught on the door of the car. There's no way I can get over there swimming without being swept away.

Looking back to her I see that the car trapping her was a cop's car. "Mara, reach up! Grab onto the lights on top of the car!"

"Roo- I can't! Roone!" She goes under again. For two seconds too long. "Mara baby I know you can't see but just listen to me! Reach up and you'll feel some lights. Grab onto them and pull yourself up!"

Seeing her struggling to reach, grasping and missing the lights is a whole other level of hell. She can't even open her eyes or she'll be blinded by the sun. Otherwise she can see where or what's keeping her stuck. Unfortunately, I think what's keeping her there is what's also stopping her from being taken by the water.

"I can't!" She screams in desperation.

Five seconds. That's how long it took me to come up with a crazy idea to get to her "safely". Time to gamble.

"Mara reach for your knife and cut yourself free! There's a truck that'll stop you from being carried away. Grab on and get on top!" Please let that work. If not, then I might have just killed her. It was a big tow truck that couldn't have been more than three feet away.
Whether she cut herself free or found where she had been stuck didn't matter. What mattered was that I didn't take into account the strength of the current so when she was freed, she was slammed hard against the truck.

Thankfully it wasn't enough to knock her out. Just yet. She had to go onto the trucks bed to get onto its roof, collapsing on it.

"Mara, are you ok? Mara! Mara!!" shit!

Ok, ok. Step two. I turn to the neighboring house next door and take a few deep breaths before hopping over the wall. I tried not to let my body slip in a bad way and braced myself for being slammed against the bricks a second time. The air in my lungs disappear and make me doubt this stupid plan for a moment.
