Roone's Pov*
Six months later
"There's going to be mild weather tomorrow but no rain or snow which will the first time in two months so you guys will be able to take advantage of the outdoors for this weekend. After that it looks like that we're going to be stuck inside with the oncoming snow storm but no worries, it's not like there's not plenty of room to run around inside, we just got to be careful with the heating and water usage."
None of us responded with our mouths full but nodded at his report. This staff member who always deemed it to inform us first thing in the night about the weather was named Scott.
Scott was the newest member of staff which was a bit odd at first because as much as we tried to resume the day schedule we just couldn't. For starters, even with having our sunglasses on, it was too bright and too warm to being doing whatever it is that needed to be done that day. It was different before because then we were running for our lives. Now, it was exhausting and draing trying to do stuff when the sun was out or during the day.
It's not to say that we didn't try our hardest. We tried to take baby steps, staying up for only a few hours in the day but it was difficult when every part of your body was telling you to go to sleep. I think we only lasted about two weeks before we finally threw in the towel and went back to our nightly schedule.
Going back to it was easy enought for us but not so much for everyone else at the zone. They had to make the adjustments just as we did in the beginning. Thankfully they took to it pretty well which is why I think Scott fit in right away because apparently he's always had night shift jobs. Be it janitorial or guard.
Besides, sticking to this whole schedule was the whole reason Alaska was chosen in the first place.
So as soon as we finished up our plates and placed them in the sink we left for our rooms to get ready to go outside. November in Alaska was no joke. It's the coldest temperature we've ever been in and we don't take chances in staying out in the night too long unless we want us or our dogs to freeze.
Especially with two new additions to the family. Yesterday two golden retrievers were found while on patrol in another safe zone and were brought here. We had to use the majority of the hot water to get them as clean as we could because they were a mess of matted and mudded fur.
Kailee and Fredi would be in charge of them. Kailee really took to them both but since it's first time training it would be best if Fredi helped her out and so will Blackie the way he did our dogs.
"Make sure to have at least a fingers worth of space with their harness, you want it snugged so they can't slip out of it but not tight that they can't move..." I hear Fredi going over the basics of the harness with Kailee.
She struggled a bit to put them on the pups but mainly because she couldn't get the adjustments right. Luckily, there was no lack for harnesses here so we found a couple of velcro and button up harnesses that were much easier for her to use. They best thing about them is that they're specifically designed for puppies so as they grow, you can adjust the padding to a much bigger size as well.
Like I said, there was no short supply in harnesses. No short supply in everything really. Saphira goes through every thing within a week. She chews up her harness at the corners, not as a way to get out of them but just out of boredom when I have her sitting down. Don't even get me started on her toys. Nothing lasts more than five minutes before it's torn to pieces.
"Saphira, time to get ready sweet girl." I call out to her. I only ever need to call her once and she's jumping on the bed sitting and waiting patiently for me to put her gear on.
