“Aa-Aaron?” I stuttered, feeling Luke’s hand slip into mine and tighten in my grasp.

His murky blue eyes traveled across me and Luke, his eyes falling onto our intertwined hands. I could feel myself getting hotter and hotter by the moment as his presence began to truly faze me.

“You seem very surprised to see me?” He croaked, a smirk appearing on his face.

“I don’t understand,” I paused, holding onto Luke’s hand even tighter. “Why are you here, why aren’t you in London?” I asked him, my voice quivering. Just him being in front of me frightened me. I’m the only one who knows what he’s really capable of.

“You said you needed me on the phone Kal, remember?”

Of course I remembered. But there was no way he could have gotten to Australia this soon…

Luke turned to me, his eyes boring into me questionably and his hand loosening ever so slightly. “I didn’t mean you had to come to Australia.” I said quite affirmatively.

“I was already here.” He said quickly.

“What?” I asked him, my heart beating rapidly.

“My rents shipped me off to live with my great aunt because I was getting in trouble. I thought it would be a good chance for me to keep an eye on you secretly Kal.” He added.

“Keep an eye on me?” I questioned. “So slightly stalkery?”

“I’m just looking out for you.” He looked at Luke and shot him a hard and angry look.

“I hope you’re not looking at me mate. I’m not the one going around hitting girls.” Luke said through gritted teeth.

“What did you say to me?” Aaron asked, moving closer to Luke, Luke’s hand falling from mine, their faces practically touching. He was slightly taller than Luke but it didn’t seem to faze him in the slightest.

“You heard me well enough.” Luke spat angrily. I watched on, my body stiff and unable to move or do anything.

“I think you better watch your mouth.” He grabbed at Luke’s collar forcefully. Luke raised both his hand, pushing Aaron off him and making him stumble backwards.

“What are you gonna do big guy? I know I’m not a girl but you can still take a swing!” He shouted angrily, his face reddening.

Aaron didn’t say anything; he simply walked closer to us both, his voice more hushed.

“You just wait and see what I’m going to do.” He spoke only just above a whisper, but his words were enough to feel like stabbing pains in my chest.

He turned around and began to walk away, kicking a wooden beam as he walked away, running his hands frustratingly through his blonde locks.

Luke just stared ahead at where he had stood, anger still apparent in his brown orbs.

“Luke..” I whispered.

“Why did you phone him?” He asked me, his head shooting up and his mind clearly distracted.

“It was the other day after you believed Sara over me and I didn’t know what to do, I felt alone Luke..I know I shouldn’t have called him but I did. It was a mistake.” I knew what I’d done was wrong but Luke had to understand.

“I’m so sorry.” He turned to me, lightly placing his hands on my cheeks. My eyes closed slightly as I felt the warmth of his hands on my skin.

“Why are you apologising?” I asked him, my eyes staring into his.

“If I hadn’t have been such an arsehole and just believed you in the first place, it wouldn’t have led to you calling him. I’m so sorry Kalli.” He looked genuinely hurt in his eyes, like he truly had caused this.

“Don’t ever blame yourself Luke, okay?” I told him. “It’s neither of our faults that he’s a complete psycho!” Luke smiled, his eyes lighting up. I got up on my tip-toes and pecked lightly at his lips.

“Let’s get out of here.” I whispered into his lips softly. Although the show hadn’t ended, neither of us were allowed to win seeing as we organised it and I’m sure we wouldn’t exactly be missed.

“Please.” He replied with a chuckle. I smiled, Luke’s hand falling into mine again. I tried to stay positive because it was clear that altercation had affected Luke, but I knew in the back of my mind that Aaron’s threat probably wasn’t as empty as it may have seemed.

-

“Can I promise you something?” Luke asked me as we walked in the evening air.

“Of course!” I giggled, turning to face him.  His expression was quite serious as he looked down on me.

“I promise you Kal that I’ll never let him hurt you like he did before. I’ll never let him lay a finger on you.” He told me, stopping us on the pavement and taking my hands in his.

“I love you Luke.” I took my hands from his and wrapped my arms around his torso tightly and buried my face into his shoulder. He kissed the top of my head and his hands traced the small of my back.

-

I ran my hands through my tousled hair as I approached my house, seeing a dark figure beside my door. It was now at least 10pm and I was all alone seeing as Luke had taken a different road home.

“Mum?” I called out, but there was no response. I walked closer to my house, my heart beating faster than before. “Um-Who’s there?” I stuttered, approaching my house slowly and cautiously.

I knew almost instantly as I approached the house who it was from their dirty blonde hair and almost dusty eyes.

“Hey babe.” He smiled, a hint of something I couldn’t identify lurking behind his eyes.

“What do you want?” I asked disdainfully.

“Why are you with that prick? Luke is it? Or maybe one of his brothers?” He asked, completely ignoring my question.

“Ho-How do you know about them?” I asked him, my voice cracking.

“Remember I said I’ve been keeping an eye on you?” He told me, crossing his arms over his chest. “Causing a bit of drama haven’t you Kalli?” He said with a snarl to his mouth.

“Well I love Luke and he loves me and nothing nor no one can come between us.” I said strongly.

“Oh really?” He asked, laughing to himself slightly. “What if someone threatened to hurt your precious Lukey?” He asked.

“You wouldn’t-“

“Wouldn’t I?” He moved closer to me, so close that I could feel the warmth of his breath on the tip of my nose. “You know I would Kalli.” He said quietly, his voice still stern.

“Please Aaron,” I pleaded, looking into his eye. “What do I have to do for you to leave Luke alone?” I asked him.

“I want you to leave him, don’t see him again.” Each one of his words hit me; hard. “And I’ll know if you do Kal- so don’t go playing your little games again. And if you do: I’ll kill him.”

“Why are you doing this?” I asked him, the tears beginning to collect behind my eyes. I knew that he meant every single one of his words.

“You’re mine Kalli, you always have been.” He said through gritted teeth, grabbing my cheek forcefully, so different to how Luke had touched them earlier.

I had to make a decision; either Luke and I stayed together and somehow, someway Aaron would hurt Luke, or I leave Luke and keep him safe.

I thought about Luke’s promise to me earlier, but I had to take matters into my own hands for his own good. I knew I had to do what was right.
