Chapter 2

I lay in bed after my first day at school, unable to get the image of the mysterious boy I’d seen. I closed my eyes and saw his deep green orbs shining at me. I opened my eyes quickly again – why was I being so stupid? I had no idea who this guy was and for one, I’ve given up on the male specie.

A buzzing noise immersed my ears and I groggily reached over to my bedside table to pick up my phone. It was a blocked number but I clicked answer and held the phone to my ear.

“Hello?” I said tiredly.

“Kalli.” A familiar voice whispered into my ear. I felt the hairs on the back of my neck begin to stand up and my skin begin to cool.

“I told you to stop fucking calling me Aaron! It’s fucking 2am here!” I said loudly, but not loud enough for my parents to hear me.

“I’m sorry…I just wanna see you…” He said, a tinge of remorse present in his voice – but I knew it wasn’t real.

“You made the last year of my life a living hell Aaron don’t you get that? I don’t want to ever speak to you again!” My voice was fuelled with anger; I felt my throat burn after I spoke.

“Please just let me ex-“

But before he could finish I hung up, I couldn’t bear to hear his voice any longer. I was breathing heavily for no apparent reason and my face was hot with fury. I fell back down onto my bed, the cold pillow cooling my face slightly. I closed my eyes and drifted off into a deep and heavy sleep.

I sat in Biology, my last lesson of the day, only a few moments early. Soon enough Luke and a group of girls entered the room. They all laughed simultaneously, that same sickly laugh. Luke sat down beside me and stared at me, as if he was waiting for me to say something.

“Morning!” He said chirpily. I turned to my right and gave a small smile – rather sarcastically even for me. “Look I’m sorry if I gave some kind of impression yesterday…” He whispered almost. I turned to face him, he looked genuinely vulnerable, not cocky like he seemed to come across as.

“No I’m sorry – I’m not always great when I meet new people.” I said coyly. I meant what I said but that didn’t mean I wasn’t wary of him; but I guess that’s just who I am. He threw me a smile, biting his lip slightly.

The rest of the lesson seemed to go quicker than I expected. Luke and I spoke and he was actually a nice guy – a really nice guy. We actually shared a lot in common and he was actually pretty funny and every time we laughed together I seemed to get 5 girls shooting me with death stares.

“Now class, I expect your projects to be handed in by Monday,” she paused, “NO exceptions.” She said sharply.

I shot a look to Luke, “how are we going to do it?” I asked him.

“You can always come over to my house tomorrow and we could finish it there?” He suggested, a smile playing on his lips.

“Sure.” I replied quickly. “Here’s my number-“I told him, picking up my pen and scrawling it onto a piece of paper. “Just text me your address and when I should come over and I’ll be there.” I smiled. He took the piece of paper and put it in his pocket carefully. We had several onlookers, many of them girls with open mouths. “ I have to go, my mum’s picking me up,” I told him truthfully. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” I smiled softly before quickly making my way out the room.

I sat on my bed, still in a towel from my shower. I heard my phone buzz; it was a text from an unknown number. My heart began to race, thinking that it was Aaron, but thankfully it wasn’t.
