43. Mistakes

People never know that the last time is going to be the last time. They always think there will be more, that they have forever but they don't. It's the beauty of it, it's the tragedy of it.

Kaya was sat on the couch in the balcony, facing Aryan's bedroom. Her mind no more let her call it theirs as she spent her days near the window, observing it from a distance, imagining it without her presence. It was heart-wrenching.

It was funny how day by day she had felt nothing change yet when she was looking back at it, every thing was different. She sighed, feeling a pain strike her chest. Her semester had officially ended and she spent her days remembering what she had created with Aryan in every corner of this house, at odd and even hours and hoarding it in her memory.

Her eyes moistened, and she closed them, keeping the book in her hand away. She inhaled, clutching onto the hand-rest, not wanting to lose control. It was truly unfortunate, and so unfortunate that Kaya no more even wished for happiness, she only wanted a little less pain.

She'd spent her entire life looking for love, in novels, in poetries, in movies, in people around her but what was it that she was losing the love that was hers to be found so suddenly like it began?

Kaya wondered if Aryan would remember her too? Like the way she does. Remember the way she existed in his room, the way she stood next to him when he looked through his closet, the way she sat next to him on the couch waiting for him to shut his laptop and come to her, the way she laid on his chest on the bed&he hated her hair flying to his mouth but still murmured sweet nothings into her ears. Kaya wondered if Aryan would want to remember her after everything ends???

Kaya gave herself a shut up call, zoning back in. She couldn't fall weak, she had come too far, and no matter how hard she could try Or how much she'd want it..there was no happy ending to their story.

Kaya got up, picking up her empty tea mug. She had always been into coffee but lately, she had noticed that she picked up Aryan's habit of drinking tea.

Before Kaya could leave, her phone vibrated on the table, engaging her. It was an unsaved number. She did not answer but it rang again and again until she gave in. "Yes, hello?" Kaya spoke, copying the number to find its true caller Id, but the sob she heard on the other side paused her.

"Hello?" She repeated and the cry only louden. "Who's this??"

"I'm sorry Kaya." She heard with a series of yelps.

"Who's this? I'm sorry I cannot."

"I'm sorry Kaya." The woman on the line interrupted her. "I'm sorry Kaya, I was scared. They'd kill me if they get to know I was hiding your truth." She completed.

"Saachi??" Kaya exclaimed. "Are you okay??" She frowned, unable to understand what was up with her. She didn't want to think about the worst. "Calm down."

"I'm sorry Kaya. I.." She halted. This time her voice cautioned her. What the fuck did she do?? Kaya walked upto the railing, losing her patience too. "You what??" Kaya asked back.

"I.." Saachi stammered. "I.."

"You what Saachi? Fucking speak up?" Kaya didn't want to be harsh but she reflexively yelled.
