Much to Avery's dismay, Opie had agreed with Juice about going after Clay. But when they went and opened the steel lighthouse door, God was on her side for once. The wind was blowing at almost hurricane force, and eaves from the ocean that was normally fifteen feet away were battering the pier and coming too close to the door for comfort. There was no way anyone was going anywhere. Just to close the open door, it took the combined strength of Opie, Juice, and Lucas.

"I hate to tell ya, baby girl, but we're gonna have to go up top," Opie told her regrettably. "That surge out there isn't no joke. It gets any higher, and it's gonna flood down here."

Fuck! Avery's back was already killing her, and they couldn't use the elevator. The climb up the stairs was going to be murder.

"On the plus side, there's always a chance this storm could kill Clay," Opie tried joking to cheer her up.

Avery rolled her eyes. "We aren't that lucky." She held her hand out to him. "Just come and help me up."

Avery and Opie had everyone go up the stairs before them so they could take their time. The slow climb left Avery tired, winded, and in more than she had been in before the climb.

At the top of the lighthouse, Emily had set up one of the couches with extra pillows and a blanket, and Opie helped his wife to sit down and get comfortable.

From where she sat, she had a front-row view of mother nature's fury. Rain and wind pelted the windows, and the sea, which seemed even closer still, was doing a horrifically violent dance.

* BANG *

* BANG *

* BANG *

The banging was coming from below them.

"Unless Hagrid's here to take someone to Hogwarts, that's not good." Juice pointed down.

* POP! POP! POP! *

Immediately, Avery knew those three pops were gunshots. So did Opie and Juice. Both drew their weapons.

"We're going down to check it out," Opie announced. "Lucas," he looked at the younger man. "I want you to take this," he passed him another gun. "Close and lock this door the second we're out. Gemma," he got her attention. "Anyone besides Juice or me comes through this door; you shoot first and ask questions later."

"Got it." Gemma nodded.

Opie made his way over to his wife and kissed her quickly. "I'll be right back. I love you."

It felt like he was saying a final goodbye, just in case. Avery didn't like that one damn bit. "I love you too," she made sure to reply.
