ONE WEEK LATER
The Corinthos women all sat gathered around the kitchen table of the Teller house.
"How's Jax holding up?" Avery ventured to ask. She hadn't been hearing good things from Opie.
Kristina gave a humorless laugh. "He's really not. He barely says a word. We both trusted that bitch. We trusted her with our fucking kids."
"Just take a few deep breaths, Krissy." Kristina's older sister, Sam, sat beside her, rubbing her back. Kristina looked ready to collapse in on herself at any moment. Seeing her big sister, who was arguably the strongest one in the family, so close to her breaking point unnerved Avery.
She glanced out the window into the small backyard. The men, her father, Morgan, and Jason included were huddled together around the metal patio table. They seemed to be deep in discussion. She watched her father speaking, and then all of the other men nodding and motioning in agreement. She had a bad feeling she knew what they had just decided.
Ten minutes later, everyone was packed in together in the living room, standing or sitting pressed shoulder to shoulder. Being pregnant came with perks, so Avery scored the room's only recliner.
"Alright, we know you're not gonna like this," Jax began ominously, standing in the center of the room. "We got intel that Clay and Gemma," he refused to call the woman 'mom.' "haven't left town. If they haven't left, they're up to something. With Gemma working with him, Clay just got a thousand times more dangerous. We're putting the entire club, not just us, but every charter, on lockdown. Until this shit's settled, we don't want our old ladies or kids in Charming."
"Tomorrow night, you're flying out to my island," Avery's dad said the words that she knew from experience were coming.
"I knew it," Avery huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Yeah, me too," Kristina was glaring daggers at her husband.
"We've only been sent there every other year since birth," Molly piled on.
"Kristina, princess, Gemma helped Clay kill my dad. She had you and Thomas kidnapped. You and Molly were almost killed, and Abel is still having nightmares." Jax looked at his wife with a look that was equally broken, pissed off, and pleading. "I don't want them getting another shot at hurting any of you."
Kristina's face softened before she stood from the couch and walked over to wrap her arms around her husband's waist. "Okay," Avery barely heard her sister say before Jax softly kissed her.
"That's sweet and all, but I'm like super pregnant." Avery gestured at her stomach. "I'm not going to an island where the closest hospital is an hour away by helicopter...and in Cuba!" She was starting to panic at that thought of it.
"Baby girl, please, calm down." Opie walked to her side and crouched down beside her.
"We already thought about that," Sonny assured his anxious daughter. "As we speak, I have a crew out at the island turning one of the guest rooms into a fully equipped hospital room. If God forbid, you need a c-section, it can be safely performed there. Emily and your uncle Lucas will meet all of you there to look after you."
Emily was Jason's younger sister who just so happened to be one of the best doctors in Port Charles, New York. Her uncle Lucas was her mom's younger brother, and he was a neonatal nurse at the same hospital that Emily worked at.
"And to set your mind more at ease," Opie was rubbing her stomach as he spoke to her. "Me and Juice will be in charge of security on the island. So, I'll be going with you."
Avery sighed before reverting to her father's native tongue to give her answer. "Vámonos a la isla."
