Aurora's POV
A normal Friday evening for me would consist of calling my Mum and sister to update them on my life, but this week I had to go and fall out of routine.
Because of Erica.
I don't have an issue with it, I just like everything going a specific way. The way I want it to go.
Instead we were both sprawled across the two bean bags we recently both pitched into buying. They were worth the money, Erica was right.
As she always is.
We were both changed into our most comfortable clothing and lay in silence. A comfortable silence. Until she opened her mouth. Not that I'm complaining.
"Tell me something Rory."
"Something."
"Fuck off. Seriously, I don't know anything about you and it would be rather nice to get to know my roomie a bit more," she tilts her head at me.
I can see she's trying to ease her way into my life and I want to stop her but it feels right in a way.
I let out a breath and ask what she wants to know.
"Anything and everything. Do you have any siblings?"
"Yeah. A sister."
Her eyes light up. What?
"Older or younger?"
"Younger. She's three."
"Do you have a picture of her?" she questions, with a glint of hope in her eyes.
I nod briefly and pull my phone out showing her my lock screen. A picture of the two of us, me pushing her on our local park swing set.
"Oh my goodness. She looks just like you."
"Really? I don't see it."
"She does. The hair and the eyes give it away."
I gingerly blush and put my phone away.
"What about you? Any siblings yourself?" I ask, feeing braver.
"No. Only child lifestyle here on out," Erica smiles and puts her thumbs up.
"Do you wish you had siblings?"
"Sometimes. It would make the whole parent-thing a lot easier."
Oh. I cant help except want to know more, but I know not to push anyone.
"You can ask about it, it's okay," she mutters as if reading my thoughts.
"I really don't want to come across as rude but what's up with your parents?"
"Believe me Rory, I know you're not rude. My parents are just a lot different to me, I guess. We have nothing in common. When I came out to them it just made them change entirely."
Came out?
My face must have said everything."Oh, I didn't tell you!! Shit, well I like girls. Praying you don't have a problem with that otherwise i'll have to move out and I was kind of enjoying your company-"
"It's fine Erica. Just not what I expected is all," I interrupt her before she continues to ramble.
"Right, yeah. Well..my parents never paid any particular attention to me and so by coming out I was hoping they would be super supportive, like regular parents. Maybe change their minds on me."
"But they didn't?"
"They didn't."
She shakes her head as if it was nothing but I hesitate before getting up out of my bean bag and clambering onto hers.
I pull her in for a hug.
I never do this.
I could tell she was shocked by my response but she wrapped her arms around my waist as I threw mine around over her shoulders.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that. But thank you for trusting me enough to tell me."
"No problemo," she giggles out.
We both let go and I go back to my bean bag and I tuck my hair behind my ears awkwardly.
"Anyways, enough about me. Am I allowed to know why you're all of a sudden bonding with Yaz?"
"I'm just making new friends. Thought it would be good for me," I lie.
"Mhm. What about that time when you said you went on a stroll late at night?"
"You still remember that? I was genuinely on a stroll," I lie again.
"Rory, I don't believe you."
"Okay, well that's your problem."
"You can tell me, you know. You've been acting off all week, I'm not blind."
"Alright fine. I've just been more stressed lately, more than usual and Yaz was trying to help me."
"Really? Is that all?"
"Well she kinda witnessed an anxiety attack too? But like, it's not a big deal I'm fine-"
"You're fine? Really? Like I'd believe that."
"I am."
"Mhm and I do my homework. I call bullshit. Just know that you can talk to me, I don't mind at all."
"I know. Thank you," I give her a smile of acknowledgment, "What about you? Why aren't you doing your homework?"
"Oh come on. Is that all you gained from that conversation?"
"Answer the question."
"I don't understand half of the stuff they give me. It's like it's written in another language."
"You could just ask me for help."
"You'd probably say no."
"Who says?"
"You."
"Fair enough. But I will help you. Just ask, I'm nicer than I seem."
"Oh I know, Rory."
