Chapter 12

"Break it up ladies!" Max yelled when Lucas still hadn't dropped Mike making him draw four in uno. "We are almost to the movies and both of you are still on that?" She said before sighing like a disappointed mom. Both boys rolled their eyes at Max, but they did stop arguing.

Lucas ran to Max, apologizing like a maniac, she wasn't to happy when they rolled their eyes. Mike glanced at Will who walked awfully close to El, She was draped onto his arm and kept whispering to him. For some odd reason Will didn't seem disgusted or weirded out, and that, that made Mike feel envious. Will had been avoiding him all their lives but especially since he watched a movie with him. Mike just wanted to be friends with the hazel eyed boy.

"Whens your birthday?" Mike asked, not even meaning to speak aloud. He was just thinking it. "Oh erm— March 22nd." Will responded and now staring at Mike, "Oh your older then me." He shrugged before walking closer to him. A little to close if you asked Will; But Mike kept walking beside him, not minding how their arms brushed.

El made eye contact with Will before winking, She let go of Will's arm and started towards the other curly haired boy who seemed to be plotting his revenge on his friends. Will could feel himself panicking when he realized why El had winked, she thought that their may be a chance Mike likes him like that. But Mike is straight. He likes girls. He just doesn't know what personal space was and he just wanted to be friends. Plus, Will didn't want to risk his life over a random boy he had never talked to till last month.  

"So, Are you dating Jane?" Mike questioned, almost sounding scared. "Oh no, if anything we are more of siblings. Apparently our parents like each other." Will quickly answered, he had been asked that question a hundred times so he wasn't shocked by it. "Oh.. That's cool." "Yeah.." the conversation got old quickly and the frosty air didn't help how uncomfortable they were.

"Her names El by the way.." Will said in a hushed voice, "What'd you say?" Mike said with a confused look across his face. "Jane, she likes El more. She was adopted and prefers El over Jane." Will replied, louder this time. "Oh m'kay." Mike shrugged, He had actually known that she went by El but he thought it was just a nickname, like being called 'Kait' when your name is 'Kaitlin'.

"I wanted to know if—" Mike was cut off by the shouting of max, "GET YOUR BUTTS UP HERE! WHOEVER GETS HERE LAST BUYS ME POPCORN!" Which no one wanted to do. Dustin came running and El ran quickly behind him, her short hair going everywhere and his getting into a weird shape.

Mike and Will came running close behind the two others. But they didn't get there as quickly as they'd like, They ended up tying. Which meant they had to spilt buying Max's popcorn.

"Who's buying my popcorn! I'm thinking a large!" Max shouted, watching as both boys looked at each other. "I'll get it, You owe me Maxine!" Will said in a teasing manner.

Max shoved Will away from Mike for calling her 'Maxine' , Which he just rolled his eyes at and pulled a few dollars from his pocket. Not paying much attention to the boy, who was now behind him.

"No no, I'll get it. I was behind you most of the time." Mike said trying to convince Will to let him but max's popcorn, "Oh no, it's okay! I'll pay for it, I'm pretty sure I lost anyway." He smiled back.

"No Will, listen, I am okay with buying her popcorn. You probably had to deal with her shit way more then me today anyway!" Mike, almost pleading, said.

"No Mike, Listen I want to but her popcorn! Save your money, she's my best friend i'll handle it."

"Please? Buy yourself like some candy instead? I have extra money anyway! My mom gives me a lot for these things."

Will considered it, "Okay fine. But next time I'll buy you your popcorn." He said shaking his head.

Mike looked like he had just won the lottery, his eyes lit up and his small gentle smile turned into a full grin. He completely forgot about how cold it was outside, in complete bliss. He got to buy popcorn, He had convinced Will to let him buy it! If it wasn't for Max yelling at Mike about how she wanted more butter, he would've thought it was Will and himself. He would've treated it like a date; Even if he has never been on one.

"Thanks, I'm about to tear this up!" Max grinned, practically drooling over the smell.

Everyone made it into the theater, Max and Lucas behind everyone because they 'needed a better view' and Max 'wouldn't be focused with Mike's annoying face near her' but they all knew it was so they could hold hands without being teased. Dustin started to sit between Will and Mike but El patted down beside her, she sat beside Will which meant Mike would have to move closer.

"Sit here Mike." El whispered loudly, if the actual movie had started the kids would be yelled at.

"If Steve still worked here we could've totally snuck in for free!" Dustin whisper shouted, which earned a smack on the shoulder from Lucas. "My god shut up. You get free movies all the time from Family video." Lucas whispered before leaning back into his seat.

As the movie began, Will, moved his hand towards Mike. "Take some candy? You bought the popcorn for max even though I was supposed to help." He offered,

Mike glanced at the Reese's that were being held by the kind boy, he gratefully took one. His hand brushing against Will's for a second, a second too long. Mike went into panic mode when he realized that he had touched Will for more time then needed, on accident of course.

Will hadn't noticed this interaction, he was to focused on the screen. Not even paying attention when Mike started apologizing. Will just said 'Oh okay' absentmindedly.

Will and Mike were much more comfortable around each other but each still walked on eggshells around the other. Neither wanted to break what they had going but they also didn't know how to keep going foreword with their friendship.

"Did you like the movie?" El asked sweetly, each word dripping with pure love. She always treated Will so nicely and they loved each other, still sucked they didn't consider themselves best friends yet.

Will nodded, not wanting to say his opinion on it to much because he still hadn't had enough time to analyze the movie in his head.

"Oh bye! Steve's picking me up, I got plans." Dustin grinned happily before running off to a car that stood still. The girl, Robin, leaned out of the vehicle.

"Isn't that Robin?" Will asked, leaning closer to Mike. "Oh yeah, She's friends with Steve! They both work at Family video." He smiled starting to walk off.

The snow crunched underneath their feet, They all had bright red noses and freezing bodies but no one seemed to care much.

"Aren't you cold? You don't have a hat or a scarf?" Lucas asked, El and Max noticed and shook their heads. "Will! Did you seriously leave your stuff on the snowman?" El questioned. "Yeah... He looked boring without it." Will mumbled, "And you look freezing without it!" El yelled.

Mike chuckled and handed Will his scarf, He would've normally rejected it but his face felt like it was on fire so he gratefully grabbed it.

"Thank you, I'll return it tomorrow." He smiled shyly, Mike glanced at the boys almost purplish lips before nodding.
