Riley Harrington. To everyone else she was quiet, well behaved, and polite. Everything you could ever want in a daughter. So why wasn't that good enough for her parents, who spent barely any time at all at home with their two children.
"Steve!" Riley yelled as she carelessly tossed the collection of things pilled up on her desk across the room before rooting through the draws in desperate need of any money she could find.
Seconds later her door was thrown open and her older brother came barging through, "What! What's happening!"
Riley turned to stare at him her eyebrows raised as she looked him up and down, his hair was messed up, his eyes wide and frantic as he swung a coat hanger around her room. "Nothing you Idiot. I was just going to ask if you had any money I could borrow?"
Steve dropped the coat hanger in disbelief shaking his head, "What for?"
"I'm meeting up with Dustin, Will, Mike and Lucas at the Arcade, but this is all I have." Riley held out the palm of her hand showing two small pennies, "Please, i'll pay you back. I swear."
Steve shook his head, "No you won't." He reached into his pocket pulling out a handful of change and placing half of it in his sisters hand to add to her two pennies, "There, that should be enough. If you need anymore then tough."
"Thanks!" Riley yelled giving him a quick hug before dashing off down the stairs and straight out the front door.
Riley smiled spotting her friends parking their bikes outside the arcade. She jumped off her bike standing besides them, "Hey, guys."
They spun round at the sound of her voice, smiling at her.
"Hey Riley." Dustin smiling happily at his best friend slinging an arm over her shoulder pulling her into the space next to him and Mike. They all turned back around as Will's mum's car drove up beside's them.
Ever since last year when Will went missing Joyce Byers would not let he son go anywhere if she didn't know where he would be. Which was why he had to be dropped of.
"No, no, no!" Dustin groaned in annoyance smashing his hands against the arcade machine, "I hate this overpriced bullshit! Son of a bitch! Piece of shit!"
"Dustin calm down, i'm sure you'll win next time." Riley smiled before reaching up and pulling his hat of his head placing it over her curls.
"Seriously?" Dustin asked motioning to his hat, Riley smiled innocently nodding her head at him.
"Your not nimble enough. But you'll get there one day," Lucas smiled in fake sympathy, "But until then, Princess Daphne is still mine."
"Whatever." Dustin cut him off, "I'm still tops on Centipede and Dig Dug."
"You sure about that?" A voice questioned from behind.
They all turned around to find Keith standing behind them a bag of Cheetos in his hand.
"Sure about what?" Dustin asked before glancing at everyone and racing towards the Dig Dug machine, "You're kidding me. No, no, no." They all raced after him their eyed widening when they saw someone called MADMAX above Dustin.
"751,300 points!" Will yelled in disbelief.
"That's impossible." Mike muttered under his breath.
"Who's Mad Max?" Dustin turned to Keith.
"Better than you."
"Just answer the question, Dipshit." Riley groaned in annoyance.
"Is it you?" Will pointed towards Keith who scoffed at the question.
"You know I despise Dig Dug."
"The who is it?"
"Yeah, spill it, Keith." Dustin yelled in annoyance.
"You want information, then I need something in return." Keith started looking directly at Mike. Riley sighed placing her headphones already knowing where this conversation was headed and not wanting to hear about how Mike was not going to prostitute his older sister.
Riley only slipped her headphones off when she noticed that Mike and Will had disappeared from the group. Riley spun round, but sighed in relief when he saw them re-entering the arcade.
Riley wandered over to them smiling at Will when she saw the worried look on his face, "Hey, you okay?"
Will looked at her nodding head, "Yeah, i'm okay."
Riley sighed pulling Dustin into a tight hug, they had left the arcade ten minutes ago and as Riley lived farthest away Dustin had offered to ride back to her house so she wasn't alone, "You know you didn't have to come all this way, I could've gone by myself."
Dustin smiled, "That's what friends are for."
Riley smile fell slightly but she quickly covered it up, "Right. Yeah. Anyway, i'll see you tomorrow at school."
"See you tomorrow."
Riley watched as he jumped on his bike and peddled away, waving just as he turned the corner and she quickly waved back before making her way inside.
"Hey, Riley." Steve yelled from the kitchen as she made her way towards him, he turned towards her holding out a box of pizza, "I can't cook. As you know by know. So, I got us Pizza."
Riley laughed as they took a seat opposite each other. Steve glanced up at her furrowing his eyebrows, "Is that your hat?"
Riley glanced up in surprise forgetting it was even there, "Oh, no. It's Dustin's, I was going to give it back but I kinda forgot."
Steve grinned at her, "Just like you forgot to give back the other six of his hats you have hidden away in your room."
"Shut up." Riley groaned hiding her face in her hands as Steve laughed at her embarrassment.
