Once Brad stepped foot into the Storage Room, the door shut behind him and he whipped out the flashlight to check his surroundings. This room had a couple of wooden crates stacked up against the wall, a mirror, and a dusty old chair. Suddenly, a pink ghost appeared before him, letting out a very abnormal sound before floating towards Brad. He quickly stunned it with his light, and let the Spirit Sucker take care of the rest.
"Any more?" Brad asked no one.
His answer came in the form of another pair of ghoulish arms wrapping around him and holding him close. Brad swiftly broke free from its grasp and introduced it to his flashlight, as well as the vacuum. Another pink and white appeared, trying to ambush our hero, but he made quick work of them in about a minute. Through with that, the lights came back on.
"Oh thank goodness. Now then, let's see if there's a key or some loot in here somewhere." Brad said, searching the Storage Room for those aforementioned items. At that moment, he looked into the mirror and saw the reflection on a red button on the wall. He turned around, and there it was. Curious, he pressed it. and to his surprise, the wall on the left side of the room began to move back, revealing a secret passageway that was sealed off.
"What is that, I wonder?" He walked over to it and figured there must've been a way to open it. Looking around, he spotted a piece of paper that had the word "Danger!" on it. He removed it to reveal another red button on the wall.
"What do we have here?" He pressed the button, completely unaware of the danger that was about to be unleashed. Curiosity got the better of him!
Suddenly, the containment on the floor began to open slowly, and white mist emerged from it.
"I'm beginning to regret pushing that button..." Brad nervously gulped, looking into the opened door on the floor, wondering what was inside.
Right at that moment, several more of those gremlin ghosts from earlier emerged from the containment, cackling and flying all over the place. They seemed happy about it too.
"Who's there? Who dares to interrupt our slumber?" One seethed.
"Oh ho ho! It's the rabbit of the hour, Brad! He finally showed up!" Another chortled.
"We're gonna do what we did to your precious siblings and friends, only much worse..." A third one hissed.
Brad cowered on the ground, watching all this happen before his very eyes. Then, a duo of larger ghosts emerged from the containment, their eyes gleaming with an ominous red glow. They also wore gold crowns on their heads, shimmering with a large red ruby and gray diamond respectively.
They were about to attack him, but stopped when they noticed what was on Brad's back.
"Hey, what's that thing he has on his back?" The left ghost spoke in a voice Brad felt sounded familiar.
"It's...It's Professor Nicole's Spirit Sucker 5000! Everyone SCRAM!!!" The right ghost shrieked in an also familiar sounding voice.
Right after that, all of the gremlins disappeared into the walls and going elsewhere. Everything went quiet as Brad just sat there, contemplating what just happened.
"I...I think I goofed..." Brad whimpered a bit.
At that moment, a certain item on Brad's wrist went off, and he was quick to answer the call of Professor Nicole.
"Hey, what's up, Nicole? Everything ISN'T fine on my end!" He greeted her.
"Brad, my friend, are you ok?" She asked in a worried tone.
"Not really, given what just happened." He admitted.
"That was them! Those little stinkers and their leaders are the ones who freed the ghosts from my paintings in the gallery! Those fiends!" Nikki exclaimed.
"And I'm willing to bet that those fiends are the ones who kidnapped my friends and family!" Brad put in.
"So they were hiding out in the mansion this whole time. Well, thanks for flushing them out, Brad." The bat girl commented.
"Aw, no problem!" Brad said, feeling proud.
"Yeah, but maybe it would've been a lot better if you didn't...ya know, just let them all escape, Long Ears." Cecelia said, standing next to the professor.
This made Brad's proud mood go down a bit, his ears drooping down.
"Ah well, water under the bridge, my boy. In the meantime, why not come back to the Lab, so we can discuss the situation?" Nicole suggested.
"Ok, I'll see you there." Brad said before ending the call. He stood up, took a deep breath and walked out of the Storage Room to head back to the lab.
Later...
Now back in Professor Nicole's lab, the Toon rabbit stood in front of the bat girl and his feline friend.
"I've been waiting for you, Brad! Good to see those gremlins didn't tear you to shreds." She said to Brad.
"Yeah, otherwise this little Halloween story would've been over much quicker." Cecelia remarked.
"Anyway, your pals must've been taken by that group of gremlins and their leaders. Poor fellers." She informed Brad grimly.
A terrifying thought then crossed Brad's mind, making him worry even more.
"SWEET MOTHER OF CHUCK JONES!!!! ARE THEY GONNA EAT THEM?!?!?!" Brad squawked, pulling on his ears in pure horror, making Cecelia giggle a bit.
"Oh come now, don't talk crazy, Brad. They aren't going to eat your friends and family." Nikki reassured Brad with a shake of her head and a small chortle.
Brad threw up his hands, sighing in relief.
"But what become of them is the question. It's odd that they haven't come back." The professor caterwauled.
"Odd, indeed." Cecelia agreed.
"Common theory holds that gremlins, rather they be alive or they're spirits, grow in strength when they travel in numbers. They must somehow combine their powers as well...ergo, that must've been enough to overwhelm your friends."
"Well, I gotta do something before it's too late!" yawped Brad.
"If you aim to save your friends and family, there's only one way to do it: capture each gremlin spirit and weaken the group's power!" Nicole explained.
"Sounds reasonable, but there's probably a catch, right?"
"Indeed. Gremlins have always been known to be quite the tricksters, often hiding and jumping out to scare the pants off ya! You've got your work cut out for ya, Brad." She informed him.
"Greeeeaaaaatttttt..." Brad groaned.
"Heh heh heh, no need to get all down in the mouth, my friend! The watch I gave you also has a secret function!" Nikki said.
"It does?" Brad perked up.
"Yup! I figured it would come in handy one of these days, so I developed it secretly. I call it the Gremlin Radar!" The bat girl revealed with a huge amount of enthusiasm in her voice.
"What a fitting name." Cecelia noted.
"The Gremlin Radar will flash red when it detects a spirit hidden nearby. Use it to search everywhere you can, Brad!" Professor Nicole ordered.
"Will do!" Brad replied, getting into a saluting pose.
With that said, Brad bid his farewells to Nikki and Cecelia as he left the Lab, returning to the mansion to continue with his quest.
