Marlow led the group through the village, stopping at the edge of the river. "There she is." Marlow spoke. Y/N looked at what was in front of her: something that seemed like a plane put onto a boat.
"Well, that's lovely." Conrad mumbled. "You're damn right." Marlow added, clearly not realizing Conrad was being sarcastic. They all walked closer to the boat, stepping on it once they made sure it was safe enough to do so.
"Does this thing even float?" Slivko asked, standing next to his older sister who was in between him and Conrad. "Me and Gunpei spent six years of our lives building this thing. She's called the Gray Fox. And she floats." Marlow spoke.
He walked up to another part of the boat. "Pulled the engine parts from my P-51 and his old Zero. Found a B-29 on the beach one day. That was something." Marlow smiled.
"You gotta be kidding me. That thing looks like it's made out of pure tetanus." Nieves complained, making Y/N roll her eyes at the man. He was starting to get on her nerves.
"I know she ain't pretty to look at, but it's nothing a couple of extra hands can't fix. And unless you got a better idea, I suggest we get cracking." Marlow said, looking at Conrad and the Slivko siblings.
"All right." Conrad nodded. Y/N and her brother opened the door that led to the engine, sitting down next to it with different tools while the others worked on other parts of the ship.
"Okay. So, we've got fourty-eight hours to make it to the north shore. Slivko, do you know what you're doing back there?" Conrad asked, turning to the older sibling.
"Yeah! Our pop's a mechanic. If we can't fix this, he'll disown us." Y/N laughed slightly. "If he ever sees us again." her younger brother mumbled, earning a slap to the back of his head.
"Hold the phone here, Churchill. Russia was our ally. Now, you're saying we're at war with them?" Marlow asked, not believing what the others had told him.
"It's more of a cold war." Conrad said, expecting Marlow to know what that meant. "'Cold war', like they take the summers off?" Marlow asked, leaving Conrad stunned in shock.
"What about the Cubs? The Cubs win a World Series yet?" Marlow asked. "The Cubs? Man, not even close. Were they ever good?" Slivko asked, earning an annoyed glance from Marlow.
"Happens to be my team. Where are you from?" Marlow wanted to know, looking at the siblings. "Detroit." Y/N answered for the both of them.
"Okay. Whoa, yeah, the Tigers. Did they win at all this year?" Marlow asked. "I don't know." the siblings answered at the same time. "I doubt it, yeah. I'd pick the Cubbies over the Tigers any day." Marlow laughed.
"Hey, who do you think would win in a fight, a tiger or a cub?" Slivko asked, looking at Marlow. "A tiger would win. Yeah, because a cub is a baby bear. A full-grown tiger can eat a baby bear. You gotta think it through." Marlow said in a matter-of-factly tone.
"We also put a man on the moon." Nieves said. He was just sitting around with his little suitcase, not doing anything at all. "No kidding? What did they do, just leave him up there? What's he eating?" Marlow asked, looking up at the sky.
"Tang. Spam." Nieves answered, making Marlow nod in understanding. "Come on, we're losing daylight." Conrad said, turning to look at the others.
His eyes landed on Y/N and they smiled at each other, pink tinting both their cheeks. Marlow, seemingly having noticed the silent interaction, couldn't help but mumble "Ah, young love."
