Three familiar faces met Amber and I near Orange Bailey's front gates, each one lit up dramatically on my return to the usual school life I was accustomed to.
The first to let his mighty voice ring out was Japheth, with his hulking figure it wouldn't be a surprise of how he allows his voice to take charge with not only loudness, but also his forward and brash personality. The young man despised beating around the bush and rather you claim aloud your dislikes or let the world walk all over you.
His hand instantly covered mines with a firm handshake and a quick pull for the usual one arm hug. Wrinkles went about his round olive face as this smile I have seen before, but rarely, came back making his pearly whites easy to count."Your back man!" He exclaimed. "Are you sure your alright to be here dude?"
Interrupting the conversation by coming in between was Joshua, he had to let himself be known for the reason of his height. His small stature may cause you to think that he's meek, but I assure you the guy learned from Japheth to never give in. So now I know for sure he must regret that decision of teaching, cause now Joshua's remarks are targeted on him mostly.
"Good to see you again Darren." Joshua's left hand extended to touch my shoulder
Through his round glasses he gave me a worried gaze, then slipped into a look that was euphoric. Whenever his smile comes forth his nose wrinkles a bit, Japheth enjoyed poking fun at this trait and ever so slightly I'd watch the teasing become a literal feud where Joshua would be steaming while Japheth's cool exterior added heat.
"What's good man?"
I turned to Chris his calm auburn eyes always stayed halfway open. With his left hand he shifted three pieces of his hazel hair, that were in dread locks, from over his light brown face. He brought his fist closer for the friendly fist bump we did from the days of elementary school.
"I'm good my guy." I fist bumped him back.
These three are my best friends that I shared many memories with, I can't believe I pushed everyone away like that...
My smile faded when I noticed we were one head short.
"Where's Chanel?" I asked.
"Yeah, where is she?" Amber repeated. "I thought we all agreed to meet by the gate in the group chat." She sent out a sigh that was overexaggerated.
We looked about the shuffling bodies of students who either took their sweet time getting to homeroom, or just dashing about the place in a hurry.
A familiar set of long ebony hair that gave a velvet aura soon came to view. A pale face with a set of grey glasses hanging firmly on the small nose. She brushed her hair back and gave me contact with her violet eyes, they became flustered suddenly shifting about then with a quick turn she disappeared into the crowd.
"Wasn't that Chanel just now?" Chris called out seeing her peculiar actions as well.
"What was all that about." Japheth sighed.
We pondered about it until the bell rung, breaking us from the trance of deep thought.
"This is where we part ways." Joshua grabbed Japheth's collar and began dragging him away much to his dismay.
"Dude don't wrinkle the collar!" He exclaimed as they went towards their own classes.
Amber pulled my arm sneak attacking me with a kiss on the cheek then skipping to her classroom.
"Let's get to ours." Chris announced.
We walked towards the opened door to see the unpleasant scowl of Mr. Roker. His years of unruly students had made him dislike children, even the sight of his own must bring him grief.
