I used to think writing suspense was difficult. But, having been introduced to the technical side of it, I find it quite simple now.
Here is the suspense outline I was taught:Event 1-It causes confusion in the character and reader. He tries to figure out what it is, but can't and forgets about it.
Event 2-This event is of larger magnitude. The character is scared now, but again, cannot figure out what it is and gives up.
Event 3-This event is terrorising. The character has had enough of this and tries to find out what the source of this event is, and finally finds out. This is a simple way of putting it, but one can get the idea. You need to make each event more nerve wracking, more scary, more terrorising. Add in some suspenseful phrases, and the job is done!
