"It is getting late, no?" Stella glanced at the fading sky above them, feeling the air grow colder as the two arrived near the end of the beach. As time was moving faster than she wanted it to, she genuinely enjoyed the time she spent with Alastor today. She couldn't help but smile a bit at the thought of that.

Alastor followed her line of sight before looking back down at her.
"Hmm? That is true, but I see no concern."

"Shouldn't we not head back though?"

He looked at her with a light smile, "Yes- but first, you have to eat these pastries-" he held the box in his hand, untouched and unharmed.

They both headed towards a dock that was fastened to the shore by unsteady fence posts. Apart from a quaint little restaurant at the very end of it, there wasn't much to see. It was rather underwhelming.

The two paused in the middle of the dock, leaning against the banister that protected them from the water. Stella gently took the box from Alastor's hand, opening it with care as she held out the pastry. She placed the box on the edge of the fence as she took a solid bite from the donut.

"Does it taste good?" Alastor asked curiously as he eyed the box that barely kept its balance on the fence.

Stella nodded, wishing not to speak with her mouth full. She tilted her head towards the box as she raised her brows, indicating he should try a pastry himself.

"Oh... no thank you. You know I dislike sweets-"

"Oh but do try one, at least one, " She insisted after she swallowed, "They are delci-"

Before she could finish, Alastor accidentally tipped over the box, making the pastries fall into the water. Stella watched the donuts bob up and in the water as they caught onto a current and slid under the dock, disappearing out of sight.

"Whoops," he chuckled lightly as he looked aside, pretending to play innocent.

Stella shook her head, smiling lightly to herself as she laughed, "How dare you," she sarcastically spoke, "Oh well, I guess you'll never experience the true meaning of happiness within a donut." She teased as she gestured to the remaining pastry in her hand, finishing the rest of it happily.

But what if that meaning stands before me right this moment?
"Hmmm... fair point." He looked over at her, noticing some icing on her cheek left untouched.
Without thinking, he pulled out a clean handkerchief from his inner coat pocket, bringing its corner up to her cheek.

Stella felt her eyes widen as she froze, slightly startled as he gently wiped the icing away. She couldn't help but smile lightly after realizing what he was doing, beginning to appreciate his kind gesture which caused her to blush subtly.

"You had something on your cheek," Alastor spoke with a peaceful and light-weighted tone as he removed the handkerchief and hid it back in his pocket, "I hope I did not startle you, or make you uncomfortable."

"Oh no no, please," Stella replied, "Thank you, Al."

Suddenly from the small restaurant that stood only a couple of feet away, a sound of a faint melody from an old record player began to play. It was calming. Solemn. Its heavy but generous tone filled the area with light even though the sun was almost behind the horizon.

Stella glanced towards the sound, then at the sky above them, noticing the twinkling lights of the stars dance above, "You think the music made the stars come out?"

"Perhaps," Alastor felt the familiar tension build in his stomach as a thought came around in his mind. The music began to make his body gently sway and his foot tap, feeling himself become a mixture of confusion, relaxation, worry- everything at once. His eyes peered to Stella, wishing to speak what he thought but only growing more hesitant as the music swept by with each silent but staggered breath he took.

"-Will you dance with me?" Stella suddenly spoke, breaking the tension between the two with her gentle tone as she turned to face him. Her eyes then widened as she realized she had spoken her thoughts aloud, which caused her to look away.
"I-I mean I can't really dance but the Music is nice so I thought maybe... Y-you know?"

Alastor paused, looking at himself and her with a faint smile. Without a word but a simple nod, he gently placed his hand on her waist as she placed her hand on his shoulder. They interlocked fingers with their free hands as he took a step forward, leading them both into a subtle waltz guided by the melody coming from the restaurant.

Stella looked down at her feet, counting in her head as she watched not to step on his.
One two three, one two three she cycled through her mind like a broken record. She didn't want to embarrass herself more than she already felt.

"Look up," Alastor kindly stated, which made her instantly but gently lift her head up, their eyes meeting.
"Don't worry. You're doing just fine." He ended with a genuine soft smile.

Stella gazed upon him, her thoughts racing from one end of her body to the other.
What if I step on you?
What if I make a mistake and humiliate myself?
What if I humiliate myself? Ooh no!
Humiliate myself again?
Again?!
What if I fall in love, again?
What if I lose someone again?

She began to worry more, though her face did not show it. Her mind began to swell with the memories of her past. The more she danced, the more she felt her vision clouded. She began to notice this feeling inside of her that slowly grew with every step she made. A feeling that came to haunt her from her past, but she did not feel afraid.
Why?
She was confused. Words from the deepest part of her being began to itch her soul, draining every single positive thought she had about the situation. Her heart began to beat violently, as if to warn her. Her head felt as if it was spinning, her palms were sweaty. Despite her composed appearance, her mind was running like a freight train on loose tracks. She was not sure what was going on inside her head as those painful memories from her past clawed at her, pulling her away. But she couldn't help but feel more and more drawn to him. When she looked at Alastor, those thoughts grew silent.
Why?
Amongst the chaos in her mind, there was a sliver of peace that progressively grew, blocking out all the draining thoughts, ceasing their power. Their control.

What If I fall in love again?
What if lose someone again? I can't lose another one-
What if I lose you?

She kept looking at Alastor. He was at peace, entranced in the rhythm of their steps, not caring in the best of ways.
She noticed the tension that stirred in her steps suddenly fade as it drifted away from her mind.
She noticed, how caring one could be when given the chance. She felt her shoulders relax, her heart beat more with the beat of the rhythm of their dance. The tension she felt within her chest seemed to slip away, at least for now.
Maybe it was the music, or perhaps the atmosphere?

But they both were happy.
and she was in peace.
She felt comfortable.
and let down her guard.
To her surprise,
She fell in love.
