Chapter Twenty-One
The blood was almost completely off Murphy, and I had cleaned out some of the deeper cuts to make sure they weren't infected. I dropped the cloth into one of the buckets of water that was used for anything medical, then sighed and sat down beside Murphy.
I saw an annoyed look come onto Conner's face, and I narrowed my eyes at him. He was closer to Murphy than I wanted him to be. "Back up."
He didn't move an inch, so I reached to the knife in my belt, and his eyes widened before he quickly walked to the opposite side of the room. I gave the same look to Derek, who seemed even more scared than Conner. Within seconds, he was on the other side of the drop ship.
I turned back to face Murphy, and I saw him staring at me with a blank look.
"Murphy, I'm sorry."
He looked like he was about to say something, but he ended up coughing loudly. He sounded congested. He wouldn't stop coughing, and the fact that I didn't know why was starting to scare the hell out of me.
"Are you okay?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. "Do you want me to get Clarke?"
He suddenly moved forwards, his body rocking as he held onto his stomach. He let out a low groan before taking in one deep breath. And before I knew it, he was coughing up blood.
"Oh my god," I said as I went onto my knees and grabbed his shoulders. I helped to hold him up as he struggled to not fall on his stomach. "Clarke!"
I called her name, and she came walking into the drop ship as fast as she could. Right at that same moment, Conner and Derek started coughing too. Blood started to pool down from their eyelids, causing my own eyes to widen. What the hell is happening?
Murphy stopped coughing just before Clarke reached us. She kneeled down in front of him. "Murphy, hey, look at me," He did. "I need you to tell me exactly how you escaped from the grounders. What happened?"
"I don't know, I woke up, and they forgot to lock my cage and there was no one there so I took off," He rushed out, struggling to speak.
I swore under my breath. "They let you go. They infected you, then sent you here to kill us all."
Bellamy walked in, seeming more pissed off than usual.
"Bellamy, stay back," Clarke said, putting her hand out and making him freeze in his tracks.
"Did he do something to you?"
Clarke shook her head.
"What the hell is this?" Bellamy asked, stating my previous thoughts.
"Biological warfare," Clarke said. "You were waiting for the grounders to retaliate for the bridge, this is it." She turned back to us. "Murphy's the weapon."
I wiped at Murphy's chin and mouth, trying to get the blood off of it and ending up slightly successful.
"Is this your revenge?" Bellamy demanded to know. "Helping the grounders kill us?"
"I didn't know about this, I swear," Murphy said, his voice sounding tired and strained.
"Stop lying!" Bellamy shouted, and that was crossing the line.
