9: ready?

Mike:

Once we get to the hospital, we all meet up with each other and immediately go to check in. 4 of us are allowed to go in at a time so Erica, Lucas, Steve, and Robin go in first.

I sit next to Will in the waiting room, he seems stressed, and blocked away again. I decide to go grab him some candy, like a good friend would do, right?
I walk over to the vending machine, slip in a coin and get him some Reese's pieces, thankfully the vending machine works this time.
I sit back down in my seat.

"Will, I got you something!" He looks at me and I pull out the candy.

His face lights up, and he smiles, taking the Reese's pieces, opening it and taking a bite of one cup.

Lucas, Steve, Robin and Erica come out, which means it's Me, Nancy, El's and Dustin's turn.
We all 4 get up and walk to Max's room. I try holding hands with El but she looks at me awkwardly and scoots away.

Did I do something wrong?

We get to Max's room and see her, looking lifeless, sad and broken. I wish she wasn't in that stupid coma. El and I go on one side of the hospital bed and Nancy and Dustin go on the other. We all just sort of stare at Max.

"Sooo.. what do we do?" Dustin asks, nervously for some reason.

"Well.. I don't exactly know?" I reply.

"Just come in to see her, We miss you, Max," Nancy says, looking at Max sadly.

El stays silent, sometimes glancing at me with a disgusted look, as if she doesn't want to be near me. She really has been on edge about me lately, like she hates me. I look at her, sort of the same way and then she whispers to me,

"Can we talk?" And stands up.

"Oh.. We'll be right back guys, bathroom!" I state quickly and walk out with El.

Once we are in a quiet hallway, she faces me.

"Look, I love you Mike.." She says. "But I just don't think I'm ready for a relationship.. I just.. I feel like I got into one way too fast.. Right when I was 12 and 13 and now 14 everything's speeding by.." She explains to me.

Oh.

"Don't you think.. never mind.. are you sure? I'll always be here if you want to get back together-"

"Mike, Im positive," She says.

She puts her hand on my shoulder and squeezes it before she walks back to the hospital room. But I don't follow her, I stay there. Completely still. What?! What do I even- What do I even say to that? Yeah she's not ready, I understand that I guess but how do I reply-

"Mike!" A voice yells. It's Will. "It's our turn, you can go back to the waiting room," He then walks into Max's room and I make my way back to the waiting area.

I sit down far away from El, won't it be awkward since we aren't together? I have to get used to this now..
