It's been a month since Loki confronted you, and he hasn't tried to talk to you since. It took you a few days to keep control of yourself from barging into his office and ripping him a new one, James however, helped you refrain from that.

You and James resumed your plans for the date, and it went fantastic. There were candles and slow music, expensive wine and a handsome man. The night ended with a kiss at your doorstep before he told you goodnight. Nothing had happened since the last time he stayed in your apartment other than shared kisses in the morning when he'd pick you and Nat up from your apartment and throughout the day when he could see you.

James had been holding back the last few weeks, understanding little about your previous relationship; he was trying to maintain being respectful but he was about to reach his breaking point with you. He wanted you to open up to him about what happened, and why your ex had hired Loki to look into you. He wanted to have you in every single way he'd imagined since you'd been hired, but of course, he still wanted to be respectful. He didn't want to push any boundaries that the two of you had unconsciously set. If you were being honest, you were getting impatient with him as well. You wanted him to make you feel wanted, and loved. You wanted him to bend you over his desk in the middle of the work day. You wanted him to use you.

Bucky sighed as he leaned back in his office chair, being hunched over for the last three hours as he looked over emails and files that you'd briefed for him the day before. The only reason it took him three hours was because he couldn't stop wondering about you, and what you haven't been telling him. For all he knows, you could've tried to kill your ex, and he was next in line.

He swallowed thickly and rubbed the stubble on his chin as he thought about his next actions. He wanted to go talk to Loki himself. He knew you were in a meeting with Steve and Sylvie, so he could easily leave his office and go to floor 18 without you running into him.

Before he could talk himself out of it, he stood up, closing out his tabs, and grabbing his phone. He stepped out of his office casually, walking over to Wanda's desk. He cleared his throat when she didn't notice him.

"Oh, fuck." She said, jumping slightly in his presence. Her hand was placed over her chest as she turned to him. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you. What can I do for you, Mr. Barnes?" She asked, giving him a small grin and scrunching her nose up slightly.

"I will be out of my office for a while, let Miss Y/L/N know?" He said, more of a question, with a slight nod.

"Of course." She said, returning the nod with her brows furrowed as she watched him walk to the elevator.

Bucky sighed and dipped his head as he stepped into the elevator, hitting the "18" button. Something in his gut was telling him to stop, but he couldn't rationalize why before he stepped toward Loki's office and knocked on the door.

The door opened, and on the other side stood a confused looking Loki. His hair was slicked back and his body was adorned with a black suit and a black tie. Loki looked over Bucky as Bucky did him, seeing a grey suit covered his body, with a white undershirt, no tie.

"Can we talk?" Bucky asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Sure." Loki's thick accent rang in Bucky's ears as he walked through the door. "Is everything ok?"

"You tell me." Bucky replied, suddenly regretting coming down here. He should've just been patient with you, instead of coming to an outsider.

"Excuse me? If you came in here to be an ass, get out." Loki replied, pointing at the door before crossing his arms over his chest.

Bucky rolled his eyes, ticking his jaw. He took a deep breath before replying. "Sorry." He paused for a moment. "What can you tell me about Y/N?"

"Aren't you two together?"

"I mean..." He closed his eyes before he continued. "Her before she came to New York?"

"You should talk to her."

"But I'm coming to you." Bucky said, his jaw tense as he stared at Loki.

Loki sighed. "She's not going to like this."

"I know."

"Why can't you just talk to her yourself?"

"She won't talk to me. I try to bring it up, and she shuts me down." Bucky said. "This is still kind of new, and I don't want to fuck it up."

"But, based on your relationship with Sharon, you feel like you need all the facts." Loki finished for him, knowing exactly what happened between him and Sharon.

Before you came along, Bucky and Loki were decent friends. Bucky confided in Loki when he found out that Sharon had been cheating.

"Sure."

"That's totally it, Buck. You know it." Loki replied. "Just wait it out, she'll tell you."

"But you know."

"This isn't something that should come from me, and you know that just as well as I do." Loki said, opening the door back up.

Bucky sighed. "You're right, I'm sorry." He walked out, giving Loki a hand on the shoulder as a 'thank you'.

Loki closed the door, pulling out his phone.

Loki: He's asking questions. You need to give him something.

Y/N: I can't. It's too early.

Loki: It's because of the shit with Sharon. He doesn't feel secure with secrets.

Y/N: I'll tell him soon. Thanks for telling me.

Bucky got back to the top floor as you shoved your phone back into your purse as you walked out of the conference room. He walked out the elevator, his eyes immediately catching your red sweater dress and tan heels as you walked into your office.

"Miss Y/L/N." He called out, rushing after you and closing the door behind him.

"Why are you talking to Loki?" You snapped, turning to him as the door clicked closed.

"Doll, I-"

"If you have something you want to talk about, then talk to me, don't go to Loki." You interrupted him, rounding your desk and placing your purse on your desk before folding your arms over your chest.

Bucky looked at you with wide eyes, his hands shoved into his pockets and his lips slightly parted. He cleared his throat before speaking, shuffling slightly on his feet. "Sweetheart, I don't want to fuck this up, okay? I haven't done this in a long time, so I'm just not sure how to approach it." He tried to reason with you, slowly rounding your desk to stand toe to toe with you.

You craned your neck to look up at him, trying to stay upset at the fact that he tried to go behind your back about your story. You wanted him to trust you, and you know that he deserves to know something, but you didn't want to fuck this up either.

After standing there, staring for a few minutes at each other, you sighed as his hands traveled up your arms and he cupped your face in his hands. "I haven't felt this way about someone since Sharon." He whispered, his minty breath fanning over your face in waves.

"I haven't either, and I know I need to tell you..." You sighed, closing your eyes.

"Come over tonight, I'll make you dinner; you can stay over, if you're okay with that." He pressed his forehead to yours as he spoke. "Please, doll."

You nodded, leaning up slightly and pressing your lips to his. He kissed you back softly. "You don't have to tell me anything that you don't want to, but I don't feel like we can progress anywhere until you give me something, doll."

"I understand." You replied, kissing his cheek before he could pull too far away from you. You checked your watch for the time. "You have a meeting in 5, go. I'll see you later."

He grinned down at you, placing a harsher kiss than the last on your lips before stepping out of your office and down the hall to the conference room.
