Creating Scars That Won't Heal

The hospital was crowded one warm morning, many who were injured in the Shockwave vs. Blackjack were either getting visitors or leaving. One room, in particular, had quite the party, a duo bursting into one specific room.

"Sca-"

Before Iskall could finish saying his name, Mumbo ran towards his feathered friend, tightly hugging him and skillfully avoiding Grian's bandaged wings. "GRIAN!"

"Heh, hey Mumbo!" The shorter giggled, watching as Iskall walked closer more calmly than his friend. Scar sat in the hospital bed, his legs suspended in the air with a cast on each one, surprisingly asleep. Mumbo and Iskall noticed but didn't bother lowering their voice as all three of them knew what Scar could sleep through.

Iskall sat on the chair next to the window while Mumbo stood behind Grian, slightly leaning on him. "So..." the brown-haired man started, "How are your's and Scar's injuries? I assume Scar will be here for a while longer."

Grian nods, "Yeah, I'm fine to go, my wings aren't that badly injured, but I'll need to keep them out more. As for Scar, he told me he'll be here for a few more days before needing a wheelchair for the rest of his healing.

"Oh man, I'm glad you two are okay, but..." Mumbo lets the sentence sit for a while, thinking about how panicked he and Iskall were when they had seen the sudden news flash onto their TV...

"When do you think Scar and Grian will be back?"

Mumbo looked at his Swedish friend, who was lying on their couch staring at the ceiling. The brit was tempted to call them, ask them about their day, check on when they'd come home but decided against it. He trusted them despite their love for tomfoolery and decided to turn on the TV instead. It was currently on a National Geographic documentary about the Karakoran Mountains until the electronic started to blast the news music.

"GOD- turn it down turn it DOWN-" Mumbo managed to lower the volume, the duo staring at the Breaking News banner at the bottom of the screen.

"This just in, there is a live attack at Shimmering Road, reports coming in say that Shockwave and Ixionid are on the scene. The only villain reported to appear is Blackjack, but..."

They both tuned out the sudden report, mouths agape as the news played. Both of them knew where Shimmering Road was located, and they were both instantly wrecked with worry over their chaotic roommates. Neither of them was able to find even a single pixel of them, gradually increasing the stress that started to pile up on top of them.

When they hadn't heard from them after an hour, they had given up on "what if's" and had settled on lying on the couch, both of them in a pile of blankets, seemingly dead. However, the taller of the two was asleep, having passed out. Iskall, however, was still awake, and while he hadn't had lunch, let alone dinner, he wasn't feeling the repercussions of not eating. Pulling out his phone, he made a quick text to Grian saying that he hoped they were okay before falling asleep as well, Mumbo in his arms.

"Anyways... what's in the plastic bag?" Grian glanced up at Mumbo, noticing how distant he currently was. Coming back to reality, Mumbo fumbled as he took out a plastic container. He handed it to Iskall who promptly opened the box. Inside was a pile of cookies, specifically chocolate crinkles.

As the avian ogled at the treats, their baker simply laughed. "I woke up at 4 starving and to Mumbo eating cereal. We thought it was a good idea to make cookies for you two when you texted that you were at the hospital."

Grian snatched a cookie, stuffing it into his mouth, "Dif you a leas ea?" He gulped, repeating so they could understand, "Did you at least eat?"

When Iskall didn't respond, Grian stared, a frown forming, "Did. You. Eat?"

"Yeah, of course, I did!" laughed Iskall, creating a chuckle from Mumbo and a slight groan from Grian.

The trio snacked on a few more crinkle cookies before leaving, writing a note to Scar for when he would eventually wake up.

No one expects two villain attacks in a row. With Shimmering Road fixed up as well as the buildings that were affected, everyone just assumed it would be an ordinary day. It was quite like a schedule, but not everyone followed it...

The infection was slow but calculated. Sculk rose from the ground, and before those on the first floor could even breathe, tentacles shot from the rising parasite and engulfed any living person in the area, rendering them unconscious. While the Frost Warden could infect them with the sculk, he decided against it. He only needed to influence those he truly needed, such as those with powers. He strolled into the building, a small crowd of sculk minions following him into the elevator. And like the madman he was, instead of just pressing the top button, he slid his right hand over all of the buttons, ice starting to form on certain ones and creating mini icicles.

This move was also thoroughly thought out, as he planned on sending one to three lackeys into each floor to contaminate it for him. Sure, it was slow as all elevators were, but he had the time.

"Hey," he looked down at the underlings that stood short to his knees, "What's something extensively horrible or unpleasant? Four letters."

The hivemind of sculk gargled something, a language unknown to humans except for this villain. Frost nods, typing into his phone. "Ah, right. Vile. Thanks."

While the elevator slowly rose, the sculk minion count dropped as well, until, when they were at the very top, only one remained. Stretching his arms, he took a glance at the crossword he was trying to fill. It was around halfway, a portion of the answers provided by the sculk, but he considered it a job well done. Stuffing the phone into one of his many pockets, he sauntered into the recording studio of the news station as if he owned the place. Which wasn't too far from the truth seeing as all the other floors were taken over by him.

Whistling a tune, he raised his left hand, more of the sculk tentacles zipping up from the carpeted floorboards and silencing the inhabitants. Two of those were Pearl and Gem, who had finished wrapping up their segment of the news broadcast, however, Frost didn't care about who he traumatized. As long as it wasn't his friends, he was fine with whatever. However, when he noticed Gem was calling the cops, his instincts kicked in, a spike shooting out and stabbing the hand that held her phone then and there. Not waiting for either of them to make a peep, he incapacitated them both with the same sculk that started to crawl up the walls.

"Mm...!" Pearl mumbled, causing the villain to turn.

"Huh? What'd you say, couldn't hear you." As he continues to walk, he hears a squelch, his eyes widening when he realizes what just happened.

Frost Warden turned, a large shining serpent launching itself at him. "MEDUSA! GO!" Pearl yelled, panting as she stood around a puddle of sculk. She fiddled with the bag beside her, taking out a small dog-like model. While he froze the snake over before it could bite him, the wooden model started to grow, towering over its owner and barely scraping the ceiling.

Frost was understandably surprised and was Gem conscious enough to react, she would have done the same. "Cerberus..." Pearl smirked, face sweating from how much power she had used up to animate the beast that had appeared, "Get him."
