hospital chapter! slight blood warning! however, only the first half is the hospital + blood part!

the other half might be angst but it isn't blood so I'm doing my job correctly

Gem hated hospitals.

She hated the whitewashed walls and flooring, how the fluorescent lights always blinded her, how when the lights were turned off and it wasn't day it felt like a horror movie. She despised the workers, either acting all too cheery or so dead inside one would assume they weren't even doctors if they couldn't take care of themselves. She loathed the sounds that always seemed to emanate from the rooms, from crying to shouts, footsteps or wheels clacking down the shining tiled floors and the subtle yet protruding beeps that she always ended up hearing, signaling how far from death the patient was.

It made her sick to the stomach.

She sat in a white hospital bed, rereading a card from Impulse. It didn't mention anything about how horrifying the experience was in the station, how she could barely see the parasite that writhed along her best friend's body, how Gem's hand was pierced through, skin and all, blood seeping down her arm and shards of bone and skin falling off.
She doesn't know if that was good or bad.

There were flowers in a small vase on her bedside table, two daisies, and a pink camellia. The daisies had been dropped off by the hero Stellar Sea, along with an outside story from the attack, and news about her friend.

Gem wishes she could've done something, anything. She had powers - they were quite small and underdeveloped, but they existed - she could've done anything! Yet Pearl had to stand up for her, like always...

"Get out of here! And don't insult my friend ever again!"

The duo of bullies ran, terrified of Pearl. Gem was always amazed at her skill in simply influencing others without the use of violence. Her brother, Fwhip, would defend her, but it usually ended with violence and Fwhip being sent to detention as always. Sausage was sometimes there whenever Fwhip wasn't, but his form of justice was linked a bit too closely to his weird religion. It was always Pearl, the girl full of sunshine and flowers who could settle any storm.

The brunette smiled, twirling to face Gem. "That should be good for the next few weeks. Now c'mon, let's meet up at Scott's!

Yet the redhead could only stare with amazement, following Pearl like a sheep and its shepherd.

She still wishes she could find the courage to stand up for Pearl for once.

Gem sighed, deciding to rest for the remainder of the day.

Am I doing something wrong?

Zed stood at his shared kitchen island, washing up his dishes. He turned to the two bedrooms that sat in between his own, their doors closed ever since his roommates came back from work. He had kindly - in a sincere way - reminded Tango that it was his turn for dinner when he came in, but both Tango and Impulse had simply taken their dinner to bed. Unfortunately, Zed remembers this isn't the first time they've been so cold...

"Oh- hey Tango!" Zedaph smiled, not noticing the scowl that sat on Tango's face. Not hearing a response, Zed was about to repeat his sentence when the yellow-haired man swiftly turned his head towards him.

"Zed, I'm not feeling it right now," Tango growled, the shorter flinching. It felt unnatural, flinching at his best friend's usually energetic voice. Maybe it was just from work.

He hoped it was.

Zed sighs, missing what used to be chaotic nights of staying up late messing with each other was now too quiet. Did they hate him? Did he do something wrong? Was it something he said? Were they upset?

Drying his hands off after putting his plate away, he doesn't notice how red his hands were, or how they burn when touched, the only pain he feels right now is a low, continuous ache.

Zedaph, Impulse, and Tango. Just three guys laughing while the world around them turns. If one was down, the other two would help him up no matter the cause. Hell, Zed sees the other two as his family.

Where did it all go so wrong?
