we've got heros, we've got villains, who else?
ah. right.
enjoy :)
Hermitra is a beautiful city. Sure, villains were one of its wonderful commodities, but so were heroes, so why should Mayor Ren complain?
He sat in his office, going over some extra paperwork that had recently come in. With Scar now back in action, everyone else wasn't swamped with the work he'd been in charge of, but it didn't mean the mayor could just do nothing. Still, he silently wishes for a calm day, a day where there were no crimes or political issues or just issues in general to deal with.
He knew he wouldn't get one the moment he started running for mayor.
"Sir!" A familiar and welcome voice piped up, "I've got some news from Madame Mortem!"
It took a minute to click that Bdubs had meant - to Ren, at least - Mort-Vivant, his personal favorite name for the dead-based... What role did those two play? The Myschiefry Duo, their name a combo of mischief and mystery, was their only actual calling card. Everything else was up to the people, which, while unique, got annoying very quickly.
"What did she say?" he pondered.
Bdubs nestled himself on a chair in front of his desk, the short man leaning back, "Well, for one, the Hero Founding Party will end up getting attacked by Frost Warden, something we've been speculating about for quite a while, as you know."
Ren nodded, with Frost Warden being public enemy number one, they had a meeting with several others under Ren's employment to theorize and plan out anything that could happen with Frost Warden, an attack on a mayoral event being one of these occurrences.
"Is there anything else aside from, you know, villainy? It was a great head up, but-"
The shorter interrupted his boss, "That's about it, but we also have a Politic-Hero meeting this Friday, mainly to discuss plans with the heroes for the party."
"Thanks, Bdubs," Ren smiled, waving him away, "I can handle the rest of the work, you go take a break."
As his assistant left his office, he sighed, leaning into his chair further, noticing his flattened ears and tail. This was going to be a stressful few days.

"I'm here, I'm here!" False sprinted over to Cleo, panting from what she assumed was a long run.
Laughing, Cleo propped herself back up from the wall despite having arrived a few moments ago, "You're not that late, False, it's fine!"
"I know, I know," the blonde reassures, "I just lost track of time since my watch broke, so I can't really rely on assumptions."
The two entered the hospital, False checking them both in as visitors before sitting on a couch.
"Have you checked in on Gem recently?" Cleo inquired, Gem being the entire reason why they were there.
"No, sorry. I've been busy with work, we all have. Especially since you work for the mayor on occasion." False had waved it off with work, all of the gals had. Hours were just incredibly annoying.
"Ms. False and Cleo?" A nurse read off of a clipboard, scanning the room until he spotted the duo standing, "You're good for visiting."
"Oh hey False! Hi Cleo!" Gem waved as the two entered her hospital room, Cleo noticing her mood instantly getting better when they had entered.
"Hey Gem," False smiled, "We came to check in, we would've brought Stress if she hadn't been busy with work. Do you have news on your discharge?"
The redhead nodded, "I can leave tomorrow, I just won't be able to use this hand," she holds up her bandaged hand, "And I'll have periodic check-ups to redo the bandages and see the healing progress. Thank God healing powers exist, right?" Gem laughs, but it sounds empty, a laugh Cleo has heard far too many times.
"Gem, are you still holding onto that... incident?" She worries, and from Gem's expression, she can tell it isn't good.
"Gem," False interjects, "You know that the other gals are here if you need anything, or just want someone to talk to-"
"I just feel weak, okay?!" Gem interrupts, "I just don't want to have to stand on the sidelines again, I just want to be able to do something."
If guilt hadn't been eating away at Cleo earlier, it did now. Sure, she wasn't a hero, but this was one of the few things that she tried to help with. At some point, she too was in this position, and with time, the desperation faded away.
Too much time.
Far too much.
Sometimes, Cleo still believes that she's helpless to do anything.

The moment Cleo and False had left, Gem's world seemed to crumble around her. It wasn't her friends' fault, it was never their fault, she just felt... guilty. Pearl's corruption was entirely her fault, if she hadn't gotten injured, maybe Pearl wouldn't have attacked...

Zed's book fell out of his hands as he stared at the ceiling, desperately waiting for his phone to buzz, or for someone to yell for him that they're going to be late.
He knew it wouldn't be happening, no matter how long he waited.
A knock on his room door summoned up a minuscule of hope, only to be snuffed out by his clone, signaling that he'd finished the chores the real him was meant to do. Waving away the clone, causing it to spirit away, he begrudgingly got up from his bed, heading to the Hero Founding Party on his own.
He just wished that he could share this tradition with his roommates, just like all the other times...
