Young, independent, and a powerful woman of God, Lia was a trailblazer and a role model to her peers. It has been a year since she gave her life to Christ and devoted all that she did to God.
It was not easy though, as a girl that grew up with anxiety most of her life it never occurred to her that normal life would come her way.
Going to therapists and taking anxiety pills was normal for her, she suffered from depression and was the target to be bullied by her schoolmates. Life indeed was sorrowful, not until she was introduced to Christ through an invitation to go to a friend’s church.
She was only seventeen and in high school but never had a large circle of friends, so it came as a shock to be invited to church.
When she arrived at the large white circular building with a wooden cross at the top, Lia was received with a warm welcome from all the church members.
The feeling was strange, she felt at home. After a month of attending that church, she became a permanent member.
God healed her from anxiety and depression and since then Lia has not felt any panic attacks or depression. When Lia graduated from high school she went to DMI St. Eugene University in Chicago, where she pursued a degree in finance and baking.
Lia became an evangelist at her local church and took it upon herself to help the sick, and visit the widows and orphans.
But one day her faith was put to the test when she was doing her evangelism work.
Lia made a stop at this beautiful house and knocked at the door twice before a man in a white shirt, black sweatpants, and black house shoes opened the door.
“Yes? How can I help you?” grumbled the man.
“Good morning sir, my name is Lia Freeman.” Lia started with a wide smile on her face and an outstretched hand. When she saw the man did not shake her hand, Lia hesitated but went on.
“I come from St Louis Baptist Church down the street and-”
Lia was interrupted by the man and she was shocked to see how red he was with frustration and annoyance.
“If this is what you have come to do here please go to someone who will listen! I am in a very important online zoom meeting and I do not have this kind of time!” he shouted as he gestured his hands to the ground.
“Had I known it would be you church people I would not have come to get the door? Now leave!” he snarled as he was about to close the door.
“Wait! Wait please, it won’t take that long. I know you are extremely busy but God- ” interrupted yet again Mr. Brown snapped back at her. “God? Which God? If he was real, why is he allowing bad things to happen to his people?”
Confused and enraged, Lia stood there with her mouth open ready to answer but nothing came out.
A smirk plastered on Mr. Brown’s face as he went on to say, “That’s what I thought.” He turned his heel and got back in his house shutting the door in Lia’s face.
It was the first time to be asked that question and she did not know how to answer this man, how dare he question God’s existence? How dare he be busy for the man that sent his only son to come and die for him?
Lia was not only mad at Mr. Brown’s question, but she was also mad at the fact of not giving a proper answer.
Driving back home with regret as deep as the ocean, Lia could not stop thinking about what had occurred.
