Heilen

(C)2024

By Gloria B. Arowojolu

"This is to everyone, especially believers who have refused to be healed or do not see any reason to be healed, there is a signal of healing that has been sent across to our kingdom. Let's heal up, and approach the throne of grace." Her soothing voice came alive.

Helen Adisa, a popular Radio presenter, was to do a storytelling that night. And it was the night she left home because she fought with her husband.

The night she realized how selfish she had been to the man who had done nothing but love her.

One night she spoke harshly to him to the extent that he had voiced out in a tone she had never heard him speak for the past seven years that she had known him.

"I am Helen Adisa, the host of "let's get up together." She began. Earphones on her ears, and her hands positioning the mic well into the direction of her mouth. "Today, I will be telling a story by Emilia Kanyechukwu, a sure fan of this program." A grin slid across her face. "I have been blessed upon reading through, and I can be so assured that you guys will be. But before I officially begin, let's go one a short break. By the time we come back, we gonna move" She cheered and laughed softly into the mic before she went off the air.

While waiting for the break to end,  her thoughts fell upon Badewa, her husband, and a sigh escaped her lips.

What is he doing now? She wondered. She hoped he was still not mad at her. Hope he would be able to forgive her for all that she had said to him. Did he know that she left home because she couldn't stand to look at his face after speaking to him like that?

She had left home out of guilt. Staying with him at home which was as silent as a graveyard, she couldn't bear. It should have been filled with their laughter, bantering and all. She closed doors to all that after speaking so disgracefully to him.

"You are a fool, Helen. How could you speak to such a good man like that? You are very useless..."  A voice told her as she drove out of the house to her workplace. "That's why good things don't stay around you. Everyone leaves because you don't deserve them and you will not."

Upon remembering that again, a sigh escaped her lips again, and Aanu, a colleague, heard her and turned to her. " Hey, are you okay?"

Helen forced a smile and nodded anxiously before going on air again.

"So welcome back....to those that have been here before and a big welcome to the newcomers. This is "Let's get up together; your number one healing program. Today, as said earlier, we will be reading an inspiring story of one of our fans, Emilia Kanyechukwu titled, 'Heilen' which means heal in German. And..I begin..."

"Broken....yes, that's what I was. And I just didn't know what to do. How I wished I knew just what to do. I needed help, I knew but I refused to get one that showed itself to me. Now, I would have been held down by guilt and whatnots, with their claws not giving me any chance to go if I didn't come to Him. I know I would have been stuck if not for Him because anytime I wanted to make a bold move, I got a stop. My mistakes stop me. They act as barriers. What they do best is blinding me from seeing what God is seeing."

"I fought with my husband a few days ago." That part got her eyes shining brighter. "We have been married for four years now without kids. I pelt up those frustrations and fire them on him at every slightest chance but he never gets angry at me. His silence always makes me more angry. He should be acting like I was, I thought. Everyone has been looking at us with some kind of eyes just in case he didn't know, I thought. I couldn't let go of that part of beautiful lives.
