Shiny met Davis every weekend and they both shared their heart. Neither of them knew each other’s names, family, or locations, but they were comfortable keeping their identities to themselves. They met every Saturday in a quiet coffee shop and nowhere else. Shiny started developing feelings for Davis but the fear of breaking their friendship stopped her from sharing her feelings. She knew he would reject her as a wife as she had terrible skin and mental issues. She loved how patient he was with her and didn’t judge her when she made the silliest mistakes. Lovesickness engulfed her, her heart was so much wrapped in her love for him.
She finally gathered courage and decided to share her feelings, just then out of the blue, Davis started talking about God. Shiny couldn’t handle what Davis was saying, her heart stung, she didn’t expect to hear this from him.
“Okay… that’s enough.” She said politely
Davis looked wide eye at her.
“There are new cookies on the menu… do you wanna try?” She fake smiled
“No, I would go with my usual ones.” He took a sip from his coffee
“So, I was saying that when I was reading the bible…”
“Davis, enough! Can we please talk about something else?” Shiny begged but she felt a sharp sting when she noticed Davis’ dishearted eyes looking right at her.
After a long pause, Davis spoke up, “We have been meeting each other for a long time now, sharing each other’s problems. The truth is, how long will we feel light by only sharing our problems? We need the cure and that is only possible through God.”
Shiny picked up her things and left in a jiffy.
She went straight home and cried her heart out. This was her second breakup, she thought. She will never give the opportunity for a third, she decided.
After several weeks, Shiny was returning home from work when a car sped before her and toppled over by the sidewalk. Shiny ran towards the victim still stuck in the car. Others helped the man out of the car and that’s when Shiny noticed the blood-stricken face of Davis. She was constantly on his side and silently prayed in fear, “If you are there, save my friend.”
Shiny was so heartbroken to hear the doctors say 50% chance of survival. She cried bitterly every day, she hardly ate nor slept. Her mother noticed her strange behavior, she approached her and sat close beside her.
They both stayed quiet for a while until Mrs. Hank spoke, “I found your Dad’s journal. It's on your table, have a look… you will feel better.” She left her room but her words kept echoing Shiny’s ears.
She picked up his journal and read to the last page. Her dad throughout her life only prayed for one thing, his daughter, Shiny. Most of his prayers were answered except 3 things, her mental and skin health and the third one surprised her. It was the last prayer in his journey… Shiny’s dad wanted his daughter to get married to a Godly man.
She fell down on her knees as tears exploded from her eyes, “Why do you keep chasing me, God?”
“I don’t want you! You took everything from me…. Everything I ever loved!!”
She cried for hours until she received a call from the hospital.
Shiny barged into the clinical ward Davis was placed in, she found soft brown eyes settle on her.
A huge relief passed over her.
She suddenly felt embarrassed and slowly plopped on the seat beside him.
“Hi!” Davis broke the silence
“How are you?”
“Better now, even better after seeing you.” He grinned, making Shiny blush
“Good to know you are better.” The shiny voice almost cracked
“All thanks to you..” His hand reached out to her
“Me? What did I do?”
“You prayed for me and God answered it.”
“I…
“I was conscious in the ambulance….so thank you”
Shiny felt even more embarrassed.
“I know you don’t have a relationship with Christ yet but I can assure you that I have never felt more peaceful and joyful from within. Will you give me a few minutes so I can explain the gospel to you?”
Shiny couldn’t ignore Davis’ sincere eyes looking forward to her.
Davis and Shiny had a long conversation about God until the nurse came in and put him on meds.
Shiny took her a few days to accept Jesus as her Savior, she observed how much Davis was glowing from within which was not present when she knew him earlier. Davis fervently prayed for his friend, he knew she was close to becoming a Christian.
On his last stay in the hospital, Shiny confessed she had completely given her life to Christ, which drove him crazy, he yelled, “Thank you Jesus!” bringing the roof down.
Several months later, Davis planned a surprise dinner date for Shiny.
Shiny stood stunned when she noticed the beautiful dining table set up for two. Davis knelt down on one knee before her and proposed to her with a beautiful red rose.
Tears ran down Shiny’s face, “Are you serious?” She said between sobs
“Of course, I am.” Davis deadpanned
“Are you really accepting me with…”
“Yes, I accept you as you are. Your skin and mental issues do not bother me, Shiny.” Happy tears leaped out of her eyes.
She accepts his proposal and they both have an amazing dinner night.
“Wait, how do you know my name?” Shiny suddenly realized
“I knew you before I saved you.” Davis grinned
“So, this is all a lie?” Shiny’s eyes widened
“You know me too… I am Davis your first crush from school.”
A/N: Shiny and Davis married after 3 months, initially they struggled to become parents in the first 5 years of their marriage. They strongly believed in God and prayed with faith for children. Finally, God blessed them with 3 lovely children. No matter what struggles they faced in marriage, God was with them and He brought them back together. They loved each other in spite of flaws and differences.
