Ndu stepped onto the stool in the living room and held onto the rope that was tied to the fan. There was no going back now, as soon as he pushed the stool away, he would finally leave the world and all its problems.

He tightened his hands on the rope and closed his eyes shut to prevent tears from falling. He couldn't stop now, after all, he must've been right, he didn't need the world and the world didn't need him so it was a win-win situation. It had to be.

He had done all he could, by his will, and asked God for help but it seemed like heaven was silent. This was the best way for him. After all, it was this same world where all this started, this same world in which promises of greatness were made, and this same world in which they were broken.

"I decree and declare," he remembered his father's words vividly. "... that anything you put forth your hand to d, shall prosper in Jesus' name. So as your name means life, may there be life in whatsoever you do!" His father prayed.

The whole family was gathered in the living room for prayers. He was just about to leave for university.
The whole family chorused amen as his father kept praying for him.

After the prayers, songs of prayers were sung for the goodness of God. Among his siblings, he was the first to have graduated from high school with straight A's, distinction, for which he was given a scholarship to study in China.

When it was time to leave, his parents and siblings accompanied him to the airport to see him off. His heart was heavy for having to leave his homeland, but also grateful because he knew Jesus was working things out. It would be great for him and his family.

Throughout his time at university, he was praised and complimented. Almost everyone who met him told him how great a future he had ahead of him. He always smiled, but never prided himself in that, he prided himself in God's grace that brought him to where he was.

After graduating, he was recommended by one of his Lecturers, Mr. Daniels, to a company for a position, and like a joke, within two weeks, he was hired. The company was in Nigeria and he was going to be back in his country.

When his parents heard this they were proud and knew he'd be promoted from one position to another. But years passed and he remained in his place, nothing changed, except for his boss, and this man was determined to make Ndu's life hell.

One morning, before leaving for work, he said a prayer asking God to show up in his situation, he did this every day of course, but this time, he'd applied for a promotion for the third time in his eight years of waiting.

Once he reached his workplace, his co-workers were already indulged in their early morning gossip. As he made his way to his seat, he ignored them, they always had one thing or another to gossip about.
Even if it were about a fly passing by, they would probably gossip about how unbalanced its wings were.

He sat down and got to his work. But a friend of his strolled in with coffee in his hand. He leaned on the table and gave an overly exaggerated laugh.
Ndu knew that laugh, it was the one he made when he had heard of something absurd and came to share it.

"You cannot believe what I just heard," he folded his hands and Ndu resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Do you remember Tomi?"

Ndu looked at him and sighed, "Yes, what about her?" He asked uninterestedly.

"Can you believe she has been promoted?" He looked up at Ndu in surprise. Tomi had just started working about three months ago, how come she'd already been promoted?

"But how is that even possible?" He asked incredulously.

"I hear that she gave something to the big guy and now she's above everyone else," his friend, Echike said with a scoff.

He couldn't stand it anymore, he got up and made his way to his boss' office.

He knocked impatiently and when he was told to enter, didn't hesitate.
His boss looked up at him and smiled.

"Oh, if it isn't Ndu, what can I do for you, sir?" He asked mockingly. He knew that Mr. Amadi never liked him but always remained respectful.

"Sir, good morning, I wanted to ask if you read my application for a promotion?"

"I did, but I had to turn you down," Mr. Amadi said standing up from his chair.

"But why sir? I've been working here for eight years and six since you took over. I have experience qualifications and just did my Masters. If anything I'm overqualified for that position itself."

Mr. Amadi laughed, "I agree, but you see in this world, if anyone wants to make it, they need to do something or another and have connections.
You know you could have this position and something higher, more benefitting if you can... Offer me something."

"Sir, what can I offer other than my good workmanship? This company would do better with my ideas, I promise you that."

"You see, I agree but to assure me you need to give me some money. And you need to be able to do what's best for me and you?"

Ndu was in shock, did Mr. Amadi just ask for a bribe? And not just that but he wants him to promise corruption.

"I'm sorry sir, but... I cannot do that."

Mr. Amadi laughed, "You see, that is why I never liked you. Mr. Right always has to be perfect. You will only bring me and my company down."

"Sir, corruption is a crime punishable by law. It is wrong."

"Well then, take your right behavior and your perfection away. This company can do without it."

"Sorry, but what do you mean?" Vion raised an eyebrow.

"Simple, you're fired."

Those words shattered him and he left quietly. He had so much on his mind, what would happen afterward, he'd never expected this as the outcome of his life.

When he informed his family, they too were disheartened and his father told him to continue trusting God, He had it under control.

For months though, he applied to various companies, but either he was rejected or got no response. His faith began to falter.

Months later he traveled back to his town and his parents welcomed him back. But with all the prayers and fasting, heaven still seemed dry.

Now standing where he was, he opened his eyes, and streams of hot tears strolled down his cheeks.

He couldn't stand it anymore, he put his head through the rope and braced himself to let everything go. His name was Ndu, which meant life, but now he was going to leave the world and be known as the one who took his own life.

But before he could, a knock was heard on the door. He tried to ignore it, but his brother started shouting.

"Brother, hurry up, come out. God has done it oo! A man just called he works for a company called Majesty and he said he wants you to work for him!!!" His younger brother's enthusiastic voice echoed through his head.

He blinked, wondering if he was dreaming, but then his brother shouted again this time addressing their father.

Ndu stumbled down, shock still on his face. He looked up and blinked. He then rushed out to his brother.

Later that evening, he knelt and prayed, spilling his heart out to God. Asking for forgiveness and thanking him, thanking Him for His time.

Always remember, that although it may seem as though nothing is working and all prayers are in vain, remember that God still lives and His time is the best time, He will show up in your situation, He always does, just wait on Him.

God bless you.❤️

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts
