The next day, the first thing that Chan saw as he entered his bosses' office was Hyunjin and I.N talking with an already opened envelope on their desk. He couldn't see the message on the paper, but his gut was screaming it was about the event that was soon to happen, especially since I.N and Hyunjin looked so serious. The taller was hunched over next to Jeongin, both whispering, their gazes fixed on the paper in front of them.
"Any updates?" asked Chan, hoping to cut off the life threating tension between the three males.
Jeongin let out a breath and nodded. He threw Chan the paper. A few words jumped in his eyes: dates, no weapons, one bodyguard only. The older shifted his gaze towards the two and blinked in confusion, trying to understand what exactly he had just read. "Wait, let me get this straight," started Chan, moving his hands in the air as he continued talking, "you need to bring a date?"
The two nodded.
"What the hell? This isn't some sort of prom!" answered Chan mad, more or less. "It's the goddamn mafia!"
Hyunjin snorted but stopped quickly, knowing his reaction would only fuel Chan. The youngest, who was seated in the chair, let out the longest sigh Chan had heard from him in a while. It was a sigh of frustration, one that only managed to fuel Chan's reaction more. The elder knew I.N didn't deserve this kind of shit thrown in his way. He knew Jeongin wasn't even supposed to be thrown into this shitty life that he was living, and neither was Hyunjin.
"I'll need to find a trustworthy girl for Hyunjin" sighed Jeongin, feeling his heart tighten. He didn't like the thought of Hyunjin being that close with someone else, but it was unavoidable. Bangchan could see the uncomfortable situation that the younger was put in from behind the desk.
"I don't need one, that's what I've been telling you" said Hyunjin sternly. "I'll just go there by myself."
"You can't even go in without one!"
"I can!"
Chan glanced between the two. Some tension was clearly visible, giving Chan a bit of hope that maybe I.N's long crush wasn't unrequired. Maybe...
Jeongin took a pen and started scribbling on the paper, under Hyunjin's observant gaze. "I'll just talk to some old contacts-"
"No."
Hyunjin seemed to be very stubborn on this topic.
"Hyunjin, you can't-"
"I'm not going to any event without you. I'm serious."
Jeongin let out another sigh. "Do you even know just how much information we'll miss?" he asked exasperatedly. "It's such a rare opportunity! These meeting happen in four or even more years!"
Hyunjin put his hand on Jeongin's shoulder and came in closer to him. "Not without you."
Suddenly, Chan had an idea. It'd benefit him greatly, and certainly the two as well. Maybe it could even light up some sparks. This could work just fine... Right?
"I have a question" started Chan, getting both males' attention. "Did they mention that the partner must be female?"
Hyunjin blinked confusedly once, but caught on quickly, smirking to a frozen Jeongin. "No, no, no, no! I am not doing it!"
"I'm not going otherwise" threatened Hyunjin, tapping with his finger on the desk. He was pulling a childish move, but Jeongin was quite stubbron himself. "You choose Innie" he added with a smirk, giving I.N an urge to smack the older that seemed to enjoy his personal space a bit too much (just like usual).
