"LEFT. LEFT. LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT. LEFT. LEFT. LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT. COLUMN LEFT... MAR.... HEY! YOU BACK THEIR! YOU ANTICIPATED IT, AGAIN!!!!" This was getting on my nerves. I've been working with this squad for thirty minutes non stop and they still hadn't even learned the marching basics. I was only a replacement, since the other squad leader broke his leg, and I was the only one in the squad that knew everything to ROTC.

The squad, which composed of six people, stopped and lined up in front of me, at the position of attention.

"SQUAD! PARADE REST!" The squad got into position and waited for further commands. I walked slowly and looked at each of my squad members in the eye.

"At ease." They relaxed alittle, but they were still tense.

"Look, we have to narrow this marching business down if we hope to represent CloudsDale High School's annual competition," I continued as I made sure to make eye contact with everyone, "and if we want to win to represent CloudsDale, we got to keep practicing in order to get our routine down. IS THAT CLEAR?!"

Everyone shouted yes ma'am, but than I heard a someone say sir. I tensed.

"WHO SAID SIR?!" I demanded. A kid, who was at least 5'11, which is tall, stepped forward.

"ME... SIR!" I straightened and walked to where he was, which was towards the end of the line. I could sense fear in the other members of the squad, which was good because they should be afraid of me.

"Last name," I demanded.

"Babcock, sir," he replied as he grinned from ear to ear. This dude is definitely over confident.

"You think that's funny, Babcock?" I asked as started to circle him, looking him in the eye.

"Yeah I think it's funny... Sir," he answered in return. Some of the members started to snicker, but when they saw my facial expression didn't change, they started to snicker nervously. I stopped right in front of Babcock and started to do my evil laugh. He was pretty creeped out when I did it, so I continued to do my evil laugh for a bit longer and then stopped. Sweat dripped down his face as I stopped.

"Push ups, NOW... MA'AM!" I commanded Babcock. The squad started to laugh.

"HEY, YOU WANNA JOIN BABCOCK, SQUAD?!" They immediately stopped laughing and looked forward. Babcock got out of formation and went behind me.

"PERMISSION TO EXERCISE... MA'AM!"

"PERMISSION GRANTED. 25 PUSH UPS, STAT!" While Babcock did his 25 push ups, I continued to lecture my squad.

"Look, I know I'm not your squad leader, Rockwell, but you still have to treat me with the same respect you have with him, unlike Babcock here who was being disrespectful, is that clear?"

"YES, MA'AM!" The squad, including Babcock shouted.

"Permission to recover!" Babcock said.

"Recover!" I replied. Babcock returned to his position in line. I approached him.

"We're not going to call me sir again, are we Babcock?" I asked.

"No, ma'am!"

"Good, I'm glad you learned your lesson." I then returned to my position, facing the squad, "from the top. LEFT PHASE!" Everyone turned left using the proper footing. Before I gave the command to move forward, the company commander, Nathin, tapped me on the shoulder.

"Hope, may I talk to you for a second?" He asked.

"Certainly, just let me put my assistant squad leader in charge," I replied as I went in front of the first guy.
