Finn waited until I had calmed down. He held my shoulders and looked at me.
"Hey...can you tell me what happened? You gave me a fright there." He asked worriedly, "the coach must be mad at us, but who cares what he thinks? You're my best friend and I want you to know that I care about you even more than you know. So please if something is bothering you tell me."
Finn rested his forehead on mine. I could feel his breath on my skin. It calmed me.
"I-I'm sorry..." I muttered. Finn stared blankly at me.
"For what?"
I looked away and I think he understood.
"I-I know you t-told me to wait b-but..."
"You...can't?"
I bit my lip. Why was it so hard to say?
Is this going to affect our friendship?
"I-I-I actually li-" Finn held a finger to my lips.
"It's ok. I wasn't expecting much anyway. I'm sorry if it became a burden to you, and I'm glad you told me your answer too. Also don't worry. We'll still be best friends, ok?" Finn smiled.
There was something beneath that smile. A sad frown that Finn refused to show me. He hates it when I worry. He says I have enough to worry about myself. That worrying about someone else would be a waste of time.
He got up and dusted his shorts. "I'm glad you're talking more. To be honest, you have a really pretty voice too. It's kind of too pretty, but not like it doesn't fit you or anything. A-Anyway I should probably go. Give you some space to think."
No.
"So, yeah..."
Don't go!
"I'll catch you later."
Once again, I was the only one there. I felt scared. The bell rang. I couldn't stay any longer. I got up and wiped my face with the handkerchief.
What's Michael planning?
I forgot I was still in my sportswear, and I sighed.
How would everyone react if I just strolled into the changing room?
We had three classes left minus lunch. I have never skipped class before. I decided to go to the nurse's office. I was walking toward the nurse's office when someone held me back.
"Hey..."
Why?
"Are you ok?"
Why does my heart beat so fast when you touch me?
"Nate?"
"Y-yeah...I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
Why do you do this to me, Axel?
"You don't have to worry about me. Really, you don't."
I pulled my hand away and continued walking. It felt so bad. Really bad. I felt sick. I reached the office and opened the door.
"H-hello?" I called out. No-one replied.
Saves me from explaining.
I walked to a bed and lay on it after putting my glasses by the table beside me.
Breath in, breath out. Breath in, breath out...
