Angel

I woke up earlier today and couldn't go back to sleep, so I just decided to watch tv in bed. Maurice was still knocked out, tired as fuck from last night.

I wore him out. Well, I didn't mean to, it just been a while since I had some, aight?

My head leaned over to softly kiss him on his forehead before getting up to go brush my teeth. The minute he gets up, I'll have him get ready so we can hurry up and go.

With my toothbrush in my mouth, I went to our bag that has our clothes in it, pulling some out so I can take a shower. While I was pulling my shirt out of the bag, something fell out. Furrowing my brows, I picked up a piece of paper from off the ground.

Oaks Avenue Drive 1112

I looked back and forth between the note and Maurice. That's when I decided to flip it over and I grew pissed. It has some kind of phone number on it.

I walked into the bathroom, finishing brushing my teeth before going back into the room and waking up Maurice. I roughly shook him awake.

His eyes fluttered. "Mm, yes, Angel?"

I threw the open note on his chest. He looks down at it, confused. "The fuck is that, Maurice?"

Maurice quickly lifts himself up from the bed to get a good look at the note. Then he looks back up at me. "It's not what it looks like."

"You know what type of situation we are in and you're hiding shit away from me."

"I was going to tell you-"

I shook my head, hoping he don't start that lying shit. Ain't nobody got the patience to deal with that bullshit. "Funny you say that afta' being caught. When was you planning on telling me about this?"

Befo' he can even get a word out, I cut him off. "Know what? Save it. Forget I even ask."

"Angel, can you just let me explain?"

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to calm myself. I'm working on my emotions and have been doing good lately, I don't want to mess any of that up.

I took a seat on the edge of the bed, giving him a chance to explain himself instead of jumping to conclusions. "Talk."

"About a week ago, I contacted a family friend, telling them that we are alive. It was during our time of taking turns on driving. I was at a pit stop and I didn't want to wake you."

My head bowed, already knowing how this will go.

"But she never said her address on the phone. She just told me that I know where she will be at. She has a burner so nobody can't trace the call-"

"None of that matta'. You should have told me. A week?"

"I know, I was planning on telling you. Part of me was just scared to because I know how you'll react," he said, voice turning small. "Please don't be mad at me."

He gets to kissing me all on the side of my face a few times. I just want fa' him to move from kissing all on me.

"You need to start telling shit like that to me. We in this togetha' so that means that we have to start communicating with each otha' ova' important shit like that."

Maurice nods his head. "I know and I'm sorry."

"No telling how this will go." Doubt is in my voice, not knowing how I feel about this whole situation.

"But this is our chance. Our chance to finally make it out. Don't you want us to make it out of this alive?"

"Maurice, this can go wrong in so many ways. I'm just scared of the outcome."
