It all went by so fast...
Even when she used most of her power to push me away, I knew I couldn't stay away. Not when someone like him posed a greater threat to her than I could bear.
[["I found out there was another survivor from the Arlington Abomination," Reggie explained to me in the truck before we made it to where Jalena was, "A man who kept shouting 'I need to find her, I need to find her', turns out this man was taken into custody of the D.U.P for reasons 'unknown'. I did more digging and I found out that Augustine has a second in command. A Conduit with water-like powers, almost resembles jelly, if you will."
I shake my head at him, "Jelly...? I... what does this mean, then?"
He sighs, gripping the wheel before he looks to me with saddening eyes, "This man, they call him Damián, and he's feared with government agencies because of all the unwarranted killings he executed throughout the years on Augustine's command. I found him through the foster system, but his file's been discontinued since 2004. What connected him to Rogue was... the last picture seen on his file."
Once he takes out his phone, he scrolls through his pictures before he finally clicked on one. He hands me the phone, and I take it eagerly to see what he was talking about.
My eyes widen as I observe a picture of Jalena—her luscious curls colored black and her face so bright in a smile as she's beside the ones I saw in her memories, her family... I traced my fingers over the love of her life, her best friend, and the brother of her lover, then at the man who took her in the first place. "This is..."
"The ones she lost in the terrible event. That's the last picture inputted in their profile. But scroll to the left and you'll see the man who's with her right now." I look at him with cautious eyes before I scrolled to the left—an entire Curdan Cay report on Damián Salvato, the second sole survivor of The Dauntless faction that Rogue grew up in. "Oh fuck..."]]
Even when she sent me all across the city, and split me away from Fetch—I still ran as fast as I could in my neon form, because nothing scared me more than anything happening to her that she didn't ask for.
This man that she spent the last of her childhood with, he's impersonating his brother to get her to believe that Augustine has all the answers she's been looking for. The answers within herself.
"I must bear it so you don't have to." She said to us, but the truth is, she didn't have to bear a damned thing. She's so used to dealing with everything herself and she feels she has to withhold the burden that others place on her.
She's a wall of ice that takes punch after punch, kick after kick, betrayal after betrayal and heartbreak after heartbreak. I grind my teeth thinking about how she doesn't deserve to feel responsible for everything that's happened since her family died.
Then before I knew it—in the direction I was heading towards, there was this vast explosion that rumbled the ground so intense even the buildings began to shake. "Woah-!" My knees fumble off balance momentarily before I caught my body from falling by stopping the fall with my hands.
I slowly look up to see this huge storm of ice and fog circling around a variety of buildings, the terrorizing scream of the civilians and the slams of car doors as they scurried away from the scene led me to move my feet quicker than I could react, "LENA!"
