Chapter 14 - Liar
*****

Fortune sighed as she looked down at her two actual brothers.

She had left the Barnes trailer early so she could get an early start, ideally away from Daryl.

Hayden and Hunter lay on their bunks, half naked, snoring loudly and each with their own pool of dribble by their side.

She wondered if either of them knew dad was up to something, though judging by the way they slept completely soundly, she figured as not.

Though there was one way to find out.

Hunter was the nicer of the two as she sat on the edge of his bed, leaning over to smack his face and wake him up.

"What the-" Hunter grumbled as his eyes half opened and he saw Fortune. "What the fuck are you doing?!" He snapped harshly at her as she ignored his protests.

"Has dad been different towards you since mum died?" She blurted out.

Hunter scoffed and grumbled as he tried to pull the blanket back over his head.

Fortune quickly grabbed at it and tried yanking it away.

"I'm serious Hunts." She continued. "Is he different to you?!"

"Everyone's been different since mum died idiot!" Hayden's harsh voice was heard, angry having been woken up by his little sister.

"I'm talking more about dad here." She gave up fighting Hunter and the blanket and focused on Hayden.

"Like has he seemed suspicious to you?"

Hayden laughed and stared at her. "What book have you been reading lately?"

"No book! Just I saw him last night with Daryl and Ben."

Hayden sat up opposite her and his mouth dropped.

"No way!" He exclaimed faking surprise. "You saw him with two people that work for him?!"

Hunter laughed under his blanket as Hayden continued.

"How suspicious! You won't believe me but I saw him with Daryl and Ben last night too!"

"I saw him in town." She blurted out, glaring at him.

Hayden's face changed. "You went into the town last night?"
