***** Chapter 25 - We're family *****
Fortune awoke the next day to the feeling of someone fiddling with her hand.
She grumbled slightly as she half opened her eyes before remembering where she was. Instantly she went on high alert as she sat up and shuffled closer on the chair next to Julien's bed.
Julien stirred slightly as Fortune tried to shuffle closer again, half leaning over him. Her hand still in his as she felt his fingers brush against hers.
His eyelids fluttered as they slowly opened. Instantly his eyes locked on hers as he frowned slightly at her.
"Okay I need to talk to you and you have no choice but to listen as you're kinda stuck. Squeeze my hand if you understand." She tried not to snap at him.
She felt his fingers try and squeeze hers as best as they could.
"Good. Firstly I'm sorry for what I said." She took a deep breath. "I was angry, upset and confused and I snapped at you. All three of you. And I'm sorry."
Julien kept his eyes on hers as he gently tried to squeeze her hand.
"I should never have said what I did. You are family, you always have been and always will be. Hell you're a better big brother than Hayden and Hunter combined half the time."
She saw his eyes glaze over slightly but she continued.
"Actually thinking something had happened to you after I said everything I did doesn't even bear thinking about. I'd be lost without you. Any of you, but you risked your own life to save Kazi and I honestly don't know what I would have done if something had happened to you after what I said."
A tear fell down the side of his face as she felt his hand squeeze hers lightly.
"I realise now," she sniffed. "That you all kept it a secret from me because you were trying to protect me. That you didn't want me knowing what dad was doing so you didn't tell me."
Fortune watched as Julien tried to nod as his fingers gripped hers tighter.
She brought her free hand up to his face and wiped where the tear had fallen.
"I love you Julien Barnes." She choked out. "Please forgive me."
Julien tried to nod once more as she saw another tear fall down his cheek. She felt his fingers move slightly as she looked down and saw he had wrapped his pinkie around hers.
