Chapter 8 - Lone lion
*****

Fortune quietly slipped out of her caravan. Both Hayden and Hunter were snoring loudly as she managed to open the door just enough for her to slip out before pulling it closed behind her.

It didn't take her long to slip past through the caravans and tents of the rest of her family as she rushed past them.

The moonlight and streetlights shone her way as she turned back, to check no-one was there, before she began to run through the streets.

It had been, what felt like hours, since she told Ace she'd meet him at the bar. Yet, as expected, she couldn't get away.

There was tidying to be done, the lions had to be dealt with and settled, there had been preparations for the next day to be made.

It never ended.

Until the moment she heard both brothers snoring and she was free.

Though as she reached the bar she saw the lights turning off.

She crossed the road slowly as she realised she was too late.

"Shit!" She felt herself snap out as she groaned, running a hand through her hair.

"Not scared you missed me are you Trixie?"

Fortune spun as she saw Ace leaning against the lamppost across the street, arms crossed over his chest as she saw he held two bottles, with a cigarette in his mouth.

"As scared as you were with the lions earlier." She teased as she walked over to him.

"Well shit, you must have been terrified then." He said with a small smile as he offered her one of the bottles.

She laughed and nodded as she reached out and took it.

"I'm sorry I couldn't come earlier." She started as the pair slowly began walking through the street. "Dad's quite harsh when it comes to teaching me and the others about this life. We go to sleep last and wake up first, always taking charge and making sure everything's right and set up properly."

Ace shrugged it off as he flicked his cigarette away and took a drink.

"The fact you still came shows how desperate you are for me so it's cool."

Fortune laughed and shook her head. "I think it's the other way around there Merrill."

Ace shook his head. "So why did you come then?" He turned his head to look down at her expectantly.
