Shortly after Zoey got changed Kelly drove her to the airport to catch her flight back to Virginia. The ride over was quiet until Kelly finally broke the silence, "He must be different if he's got your head scrambled to the point your quiet," her brother said glancing over to the blonde who just sighed looking at Jay's shirt she was still wearing. "I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop," her voice was so quiet. "What do you mean?" he asks confused, "He's just. He's everything I want in a partner and after Jack, I'm terrified that I guess he's gonna change like Jack did. I don't know" The blonde said closing her eyes and letting out a shaky breath.
O'Hare International Airport, Chicago Illinois
The car pulled to a stop outside the airport as Kelly put the mustang in the park before turning to his sister. "Zo, I've known Jay for years and he's a really great guy. Jay wouldn't hurt you and as for Jack he was always a piece of crap." her brother said trying to reassure his sister things would be different especially since he'd known the detective for years. "How are you so sure?" Zoey asked looking at him with her bright blue eyes. "Because Jay is more or a gentleman than that as Gabby put it when I expressed my concern to her about him when they dated a few years ago," Kelly said as Zoey just nodded silently. "I'm gonna get going, I gotta catch my flight. I love you Kells," was all the blonde said before climbing out of the mustang. "Text me when your flight lands, Love you Zo" Kelly called as he watched his baby sister disappear into the airport once again with her work duffle hanging over her shoulder as the blonde's small frame disappeared into the massive building before he drove off back to their apartment.
Zoey walked through the large building heading to her gate with her headphones in listening to music until the flight boarded and even then the blonde continued listening to song after song each genre different from the one prior. Zoey stared out the window of the plane lost in thought about what both Gabby and her brother told her about Jay. He's a great guy and he's not Jack, but Zoey spent 99% of her time seeing the absolute worst humanity had to offer. Somehow she felt like it was too good to be true.
The flight soon landed in Virginia and Zoey got off the plane walking through the airport picking up two cans of her favourite energy drink before walking to the parking garage and climbing into her candy apple red Camero. The moment she got in her phone rang from her pocket, the blonde pulled the device out answering the call. "SSA Severide." the blonde said putting the phone on speaker before starting the car and letting the phone connect to her speaker system. "Hey, Severide it's Morgan. Are you back yet?" her partner asks. "Yea, I just landed and I'm leaving the airport now, why?" she asks. "Hotch wants you back, said it was important," Morgan said through the speaker. "Okay, I'm on my way to the office now. I'll see you shortly," the blonde said before disconnecting the line.
Quantico Virginia
The drive to the federal building didn't take Zoey more than 10 minutes as she pulled her red car into the parking garage backing in next to Reid and Morgan's cars. The blonde switched the engine off, grabbing her duffle bag from the passenger seat as she climbed out of the sports car heading straight for the elevators after locking her doors.
The elevator doors slide open allowing Zoey to walk out heading towards the glass doors and entering the BAU office while she began chugging back the can of liquid go-go juice. "Severide, welcome back!" Reid was the first to say noticing the agent's presence as she dropped her bag on her desk in front of his. "Hey," she said with a huge smile, "Hey, Superwoman, how was your time off with your mystery detective?" Morgan said walking into the office with Garcia as he pull her into a hug. The comment made her roll her eyes at him, "He's just a friend," she replies as her partner just sent her a look along with a smug smirk. "What? don't look at me like that, It's the truth." she replied as she chugged some more of the energy drink, "So is that his shirt?" Reid asks joining the conversation looking up from his desk, "is that a hickey?" Morgan said more than asked causing the blonde to choke on the drink and start coughing as she pulled her phone out to look at her neck in reflection on her camera. Sure enough at the base of her neck close to her collar bone was a dark hickey.
"Damn it," Severide muttered sitting down in her desk chair, "Come on just tell us who he is, Derek can't stop me from pulling your phone records forever," Garcia said Zoey's phone rang from her bag.
The blonde pulled the device out pressing answer before pressing the phone to her ear, "SSA Severide," Zoey said through the line. "Hey Zo it's Jay," the detective said through the line causing the blonde to fight a smile forming on her face as Morgan, Reid and Garcia watched her reaction to the call. "Hey... How's it going?" She replied through the line. "The usual, hunting bad guys, locking them up. How was your flight back?" he asks. "It was nothing out of the ordinary, Look can I call you later? I just got to work and we're about to brief on a case soon," Zoey said noticing JJ walk in with Prentiss. "Okay, um listen. I was wondering. If maybe you wanted to get dinner with me? when you come home?" He said through the line causing her to pause taking a drink of her energy drink trying to think of what to say. Maybe it was just as friend? she thought to herself. "Like a date.." he adds as if he heard her thoughts. "Aww... you miss me already?" Zoey said more than asked with a smirk fully on her face. "Yea, I do. It's not the same here without you, so what do you say?" the detective asked. "Sure, sounds like a plan, but I really do gotta go. I'll text you later," Zoey said through the line. "It's a date then, talk to you soon Zo. And stay safe" Jay said through the line causing her smirk to form into a smile. "Yea, you too," she said before she hung up the line.
The whole team was staring at her including JJ and Prentiss now, the only ones missing was Rossi and Hotch. "What was that?" JJ asks with a smile. "okay if I tell you will you all just drop it? I don't even know if it's gonna last," Zoey finally said looking at her team. "Often times those relations are the most long-lasting," Hotch said joining the conversation with Rossi. "And we're never gonna stop worrying about you kid," Rossi added. "Okay, It's Halstead," she said with a smirk as smiles formed on her team. "He's hot," Prentiss said looking at Jj who nods. "You have no idea, he's literally an amazing guy and such a total gentleman," she said with a smile. "But?" Morgan asks noticing his partner's expression. "It seems too good to be true, I'm just kind of waiting for it to fall apart," Zoey said honestly with a shrug. "Listen to your gut, it hasn't steered you wrong so far," Morgan said placing a hand on Severide's shoulder trying to reassure her. "I need everyone in the round table room, including you Severide. We got a case," Hotch said as everyone dropped the subject and made their way towards the round table room.
