Coffee and Feels

Really short Chapter cuz my first day of school is tomorrow 💀

Shuichi was working on a case for his uncle's agency. Everytime he had time, he would request for a case on his uncle's website, and complete it. Usually he would solve these cases on weekends but today all his classes were scheduled for only online homework. He had already finished the homework so he was spending his time solving cases.

He had woken up early to complete the assignments and get started on the cases. They were simple ones, he would had to save bigger cases for when he got back home.

He finished his 7th case, stretching, he looked at the time, 10:11 a.m, still pretty early. He got up and decided to eat something. Just as he got out a cooking pot, his phone rang. He took a look at the contact name, Kaede, he quickly answered.

"Shuichi!" She immediately said. She seemed extremely excited to see him pick up.

Shuichi couldn't help but laugh, "Kaede? What's gotten into you?"

"Well, I just got out of my last lecture for today and I really want a coffee right now. But...I was kinda hoping you could come with me...? If you're not busy, of course"

"You called at the perfect time. I just finished my cases for today and I'm hungry right now" he answered.

"Alright! So....I'll meet you there right? By the way I'm talking about the Cafe I work at"

"Yep, I'll be there. See you soon, Kaede"

"See ya Shuichi!"

It was the early days of December. The air was cool against his skin but still not winter cold. The trees were mostly empty, waiting for snow to fall on them. There were people roaming all over campus, some headed to class while others were hanging out with friends.

Shuichi was wearing a dark blue turtleneck sweater and black pants. As he approached Kaede, he could see that she was using a sage green puffy sweater with blue jeans.

Kaede's eyes lit up when she saw him, "Hey Shuichi! You actually made it!"

"Why wouldn't I make it?" He said, slightly tilting his head.

Kaede shrugged, "Actually, I don't know, I just got worried for second"

"Well, I'm here now so let's go in"

Shuichi opened the door for Kaede, letting her enter first, then entering after her, all while the latter was giggling at his politeness. Inside, the Cafe smelled rich of coffee. "Wha! It's so warm in here!" Kaede hugged herself as she said that.

"Mmm...this coffee is so good. You agree...right Shuichi?" The pair had not just ordered coffee, but also donuts to go along. "The coffee does taste good...doesn't it feel weird to eat at where you work?". Kaede pondered for a moment at his question, "Hm....no it doesn't feel weird because the employees working right now don't know me".

Shuichi nodded and replied with a hum as to show his understanding. Kaede looked out the window, watching the people go by. It was December, so everyone had warm clothes on. An idea popped into her head, but, she didnt want to say it just yet. She turned back to face Shuichi, who was also looking out the widow, one hand on his face, the other bringing his cup to his mouth. Once he felt Kaede's gaze on him, he too turned to look at her.

Lately, the two had a strange habit of randomly staring at the other. Currently they were practicing this strange habit, just admiring each other. It wasn't anything too awkward, they would just keep looking at each other.

Kaede felt like this was the perfect moment to talk about her idea. "Hey Shuichi?" At hearing his name, his head perked up, "Hm? Yes, Kaede?". It was kind of adorable to Kaede how quickly he would lift his head up, though she quickly discarded the thought.

"Well its December now and I've heard that it'll start to snow soon so I was thinking we should all go get together on a snowy day and have some fun!"

"That's a great idea Kaede!" He said, his eyes full of excitement.

"I'll definitely have to plan things out, to make sure we make the most of the day." Kaede enthusiastically said.

Kaede crashed down on a bean bag at the bookstore. "Wow these bean bags are actually really comfortable". Earlier, Shuichi had mentioned that he wanted to buy a new book soon. Kaede's response being, "Why don't we go right now!".

Meanwhile, Shuichi was roaming around the mystery novel section. He had been looking for a while now. As much as Kaede wanted to stay seated, she also felt like helping him. "Can I help you look?" She asked. "Ah sure".

And so began a journey of Kaede randomly pulling out books just for Shuichi to say, "O-Oh...I've already read that one".

"At this point I'm convinced you've read all of the mystery section!" Kaede pouted. "I-Is that a bad thing...?" Shuichi asked. "Well no...but it does make it difficult to fi-" at that moment Kaede took out a book and passed it to Shuichi, "Oh! Have you read this one?". Shuichi read the cover, "No I actually haven't..." He turned to the back and began to read the description.

"Oh what's it about!" Kaede's curiosity got to her as she peered over his shoulder. This caused a bit of color to wash over Shuichi's face. She began to slowly and softly read the description out loud. Kaede's face close to his, her practically whispering into his ear, butterflies began to form in his stomach.

Once she backed away, he cleared his throat, "I-I think I'll get this one..."

"You actually like the book I picked out!? That's great!" Kaede said, completely unaware of the red on the former's face.

"Y-Yeah..! I did" Shuichi quickly walked to the checkout line, trying to calm himself down.
